Because it was King Constantines favorite story out of all the other stories going around so he decreed that this is the religion that his subjects should embrace.
But there is no evidence that Jesus ever existed.
The story according to the bible is that he fullfilled a prophesy.
Ok i didnt copy and paste that from Word so why did the text come out black again ... *sigh*

AWESOME
Permalink Reply by MikeLong on March 13, 2013 at 3:41pm So where DID you copy and paste from? One must assume that you didn't type that directly into the TA editor.
Permalink Reply by archaeopteryx on March 13, 2013 at 6:13pm @Angela, if that happens again, while you still have 15 minutes to edit your mesage, open it back up and click the HTML tab on your TA message toolbar, and you will be taken to the HTML code inside your message - look directly in front of your text, and you will see a string of letters in a bracket, similar to this: <string of letters>
Within those brackets will be an "F#" followed by some numbers - the numbers tell the computer what colors to use for the lettering. Highlight the entire set of brackets, including anything that is within them, then delete it and your text should appear normal.
Whatever you're pasting from has HTML instructions already built into it for black lettering, and it simply transfers that to TA's server.

There are absolutely no first hand accounts from anybody that the Jesus of the NT ever existed.
Remember, the Gospels are all "According to Mark - According to Paul etc
The first of the Gospels were written aprox 30 years after the supposed crucifixion and the latest were written almost 100 years after. So these are not first hand accounts.
There were stacks of Roman historians who were writting first hand accountsof what was happening in Rome at that time and those stories tie in.
We know for sure that Caesar existed - We have signitures, busts, coins, letters etc to verify this.
Jesus was also supposed to be living in this time so, for someone who was causing such a stir, why didnt anyone mention him?
You will also hear a lot of Christians saying that a man named Josephus wrote first hand accounts about Jesus but this is not true either because we know that Josephus was born 10 years after the crucifixion.
Jesus was a carpenter so, couldnt he have at least left us a table with his name scratched in it or something.
Regarding your heading "Was Jesus the Wrong Choice"
If the Jesus that we read about today was the 'wrong' choice then why didnt the real one step forward?
Cant you just see that in a Monty Python sketch?

Jesus was only called a criminal toward the end of his life. He had a pretty good run before that,
He performed miracles. He fed 5000 people on just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish.
Mathew 14: 3-21
and not one of those 5000 wrote about it?
