I have not thought of a person of faith that I can ask about the mention of unicorns in the bible. It seems like such a trap to put them in that it is almost cruel. But then some have harassed me about being a non-believer that I would love to throw it in their face. But maybe they would come back at me and say something like what Dr. Elizabeth Mitchell said on June 25, 2008 https://answersingenesis.org/bible-questions/unicorns-in-the-bible/ “Modern readers have trouble with the Bible’s unicorns because we forget that a single-horned feature is not uncommon on God’s menu for animal design. (Consider the rhinoceros and narwhal.) The Bible describes unicorns skipping like calves (Psalm 29:6), traveling like bullocks, and bleeding when they die (Isaiah 34:7). The presence of a very strong horn on this powerful, independent-minded creature is intended to make readers think of strength.

The absence of a unicorn in the modern world should not cause us to doubt its past existence.”

Let me pause for a minute because I am laughing so hard I can hardly keep my concentration here.

Will you have the courage to approach a friend of the faith with this? If you do let me know what they say, please.

Numbers 23:22

God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.

Deuteronomy 33:17

His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.

Job 39:9

Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?

Psalm 22:21

Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.

Psalm 92:10

But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

Isaiah 34:7

And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.

Wow, the Creation Museum should have unicorn fossils on exhibit, and/or children riding them!

We should probably petition them to add it. It would work in our favor.

They can borrow some from North Korea. They did discover a unicorn lair, my mistake.. It is a beast with a dragon's head, a deer's body, the tail of a cow (photo below), hooves and a mane. Sorry, Creation Museum, better luck next time.

Dude, whether you believe in the Bible or not, the writers of the OT were clearly writing about a creature that was real and that their audience knew about... in other words, that word shouldn't be translated "unicorn", and there are in fact, very few translations that actually went with "unicorn".

That's interesting.  Why would ANY have gone with the word "unicorn"?  Was it only in later translations that they chose to start using "wild ox" as the translation?  I wonder why they later decided that "unicorn" was not the correct translation.  Or is it possible it was the correct translation, and only later did they realize it doesn't play well toward the credibility of the stories?

that word shouldn't be translated "unicorn",

But, but, but, the bible is the infallible word of god himself... How can there possibly be any translation errors?

See, Jerod, that's the thing. If that part is "wrong" just because it sounds absolutely silly to you, what else is wrong in that book? You can't pick and chose which parts are for sure true, and which need to be "interpreted." That's not how reality works, buddy.

If we all took the same approach to the rest of the world like you and your ilk take to the "word of god," this guy would probably be considered the smartest man alive right now.

Indeed. If "unicorn" was miscopied (corrupted) and/or mistranslated then perhaps 90% of the bible was miscopied and/or mistranslated (corrupted). The word of god may have been so corrupted and mistranslated that Christians might be worshiping the wrong lord. Perhaps god was even crueler and more sadistic in the old testament. Or perhaps there were many unicorns dancing around Jesus while it rained honey in the New Testament. We simply can never know unless a self-proclaimed expert can dictate to us just what bits were corrupted or not. Jerod would you like to nominate someone to be the official bible corruption expert for thinkatheist.com ?

In fact there have been many corruptions of the original translated words in the Bible.

And no one human should be the one to point it out. This should be done by EVERY SINGLE PERSON THEMSELVES. Prove the Bible wrong, but you must have the proper tools and that is a Greek and Hebrew dictionary. And yes, it WILL TAKE YOU a LONG TIME to do this.

For anyone who does not have any patience, then don't bother.

but for the many who decide it is not truth, it is only fair to do the research and seek out to disprove it. Why take the lazy way and just believe the words of others?

but for the many who decide it is not truth, it is only fair to do the research and seek out to disprove it

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on that.  I think whoever makes a claim must prove it.  It is not up to others to disprove it.  If I told you I can fly, would you feel the need to disprove it?  Or would you simply dismiss my claim until I proved it is true?

Aaah gotta love cherry pickers. Why don't you address everything I wrote?

Because everything else you wrote has been addressed ad nauseum.  What it comes down to is that you think everyone else has a duty to spend their time disproving your claim, which you make without proof.

Prove the Bible wrong, [...] but for the many who decide it is not truth, it is only fair to do the research and seek out to disprove it. Why take the lazy way and just believe the words of others?

This is a burden of proof fallacy. It falls to the claimant to prove his claim is right, not for others prove it is wrong.
