Trump is the screaming ugly tip of the iceberg of the Republican Candidates. While it's painful to watch what he does and says...it's not that less pleasant following the other candidates. Mention God...mention the attack on God...the 6,000 year old earth...deny climate change and you are taken seriously. Do the reverse and your campaign is already over. Not a single one of them hasn't said or pledged something ludicrous. The competition has gotten so fierce and the tone has been set in such a way...that to get noticed...means to say or do something imbecilic. The more outlandish the better.

This latest example...for me at least...is one of the worst...because the candidate who did it...knows better than any other. He is relatively moderate, intelligent and until now...the least buffoonish than any of the others. And there is simply no way he believes it is a good idea and that he is saying it for any reason other than grabbing attention. He has been the Governor of a state that borders Canada, one which has always depended on cordial and friendly relations and important trade with the North.

He "claims" that there are good reasons to build a 8,000km fence between the U.S. and Canada. Scott Walker up until now was controversial (for his union busting antics) but he wasn't like the rest (that is a brainless scrum-driver). The CBC (who needs not convince a single Canadian that a wall is the stupidest idea perhaps ever made) does a great take on this.

What's funny is that there is an actual election campaign going on now in Canada...and yet the clown car contest in the U.S. gets as much press in Canada even though the U.S. election is months away. The boring Canadian election simply cannot match the hilariousness or be as stupefying as mentioning a wall between the U.S. and Canada as well as putting "good reasons" in the same sentence.

Meanwhile the non-democrat campaign continues with three heavyweights all giving reasoned and humanistic ideas and plans for the future of the U.S. in a non-shrill and non moronic way. It's hard to imagine that campaign (even if there gets to be a real campaign) would approach anything like the republican one.

How did things get this way? Why is the republican campaign so grotesque? Why do intelligent candidates have a stoop down to such a scum-politics? Why is such a large portion of republican supporters so gullible to take these lines seriously? Why don't other republican supporters do anything about it?

I keep waiting for Donald Trump to make a total ass of himself and be recognized as such. It's TOTALLY baffling to me some of the asshole things he's said and done, and NO ONE seems to report it that way! Instead he's revered for it! I keep saying to myself, "Are people REALLY that stupid!!!?!!????!!!!!"

A resounding "YES."

Bill Maher on Donald Trump

I can't ever get enough of Bill Maher, lol!! He's SO funny!

He makes an ass out of himself every day.

And criticism of him just energizes his supporters. He's that monster from the sci fi movies who thrives on the energy of attacks. Why? Because these people are totally anti-establishment. They hate their own party for not getting rid of Obamacare. They hate congressional inaction. They agree with Trump that their congressmen/women are all a bunch of dopes who've been bought off by special interests, too. And they see the mainstream press (now even including Fox News!) as part of the same system that must be flushed down the toilet and replaced with some sort of quasi-dictatorship run by an alpha male who just gets things done, damn the legality.

A sound analysis

Yes here in Europe we look on in dropped jaw disbelief at the jbbering, ranting nonsense that spouts forth from american republicans and wonder..................WHY ?

Could it be that far from being drug hard liners they are in fact taking them in vast, vast quantities? Is there some sort of brain eating STD that is spread during all those homoerotic rich white boy fraternity initiations they go through at college that really starts rotting their brains by the time they run for orifice?

oh and how come i can post in here again, what is up with athiestzone?

Atheistzone fell into such disuse that I pointed out to a mod that no activity had happened for 15 hours. Whether that action was the cause or not, shortly thereafter TA was resuscitated.

This site is not nearly as crowded as it was when I first joined, either.  It used to be completely impossible to keep up with all the posts and so forth.

Strega is less active as is Michael. Gallup's Mirror has more or less been expelled, as I take it. The Van der Roos's are less active for some reason.

I almost forgot, archaeopteryx got pissed off at the moderating at one time and mostly lurks, I think. Maybe he'll come back with Gallup's Mirror's absence.

Archae may have gotten pissed off about something having nothing to do with GM, but one can hope he returns regardless of the reason.

There are a lot of people who were very active when I first joined (a few months before the Reason Rally) who are long, long gone now.  Though in many cases, I think it was mostly chat activity...and the chat room is full of a chorus of crickets these days.

In my entire time here I've never used chat even once.

Unseen, I am new here and love to chat....Check it out....If I am online, I am game...:-)

Yeah, I'm not really much of a chatter. Sorry.

Archae may have gotten pissed off about something having nothing to do with GM, but one can hope he returns regardless of the reason.

Same sentiment here.

...and the chat room is full of a chorus of crickets these days.

Hmm, I've rarely used chat myself, but perhaps your observation is significant, or at least connects interestingly to trends.
