I'm a big fan of science and technology as well as humans. I like the transhumanist movement and was just wondering what your thoughts and feelings are about it?
Please stay on topic and don't obsessively talk about how religion is mostly anti-human etc. I already know that. :P
I'm more interested in how humanity can be better, have more enjoyable lives and evolve in positive ways. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transhumanism
Thanks and I look forward to your ideas and perspectives. :)

Permalink Reply by Judith van der Roos on November 25, 2012 at 7:14am how on earth could I direct that at you specifically, I do not know what you look like, what your build is, it was a comment about humanity tending towards greed/gluttony and falling back on solutions to their problems that don't require some effort. Also I am not anti-technology, I think you are making assumptions there, on what do you base that statement ? I make use of technology to compensate for my limited eyesight, technology holds my pelvis together, technology allows me to communicate despite being profoundly deaf, but I layer that technology on top of a body I make as healthy as I can first.
Oh and your comment"Her limited experience" - way to go on the condescending comment yourself there.
Kind regards,
Judith vd R.
Permalink Reply by T A A on November 21, 2012 at 11:56pm I agree... though I'm both a lard AND muscle ass. Right now it's dark for most of the day where I live and it's -20c, so I'm spending a little more time on the puter, ah Novembers
Permalink Reply by archaeopteryx on November 22, 2012 at 1:19am It was 80 degrees F here today - ah, Novembers --
Permalink Reply by Nate Lundgren on November 22, 2012 at 10:56am Sorry to hear that TAA. I hope you can still enjoy some outdoor times or other fun activities. :)
It is 80 degrees F here as well arch, there are few advantages to living in the southern US but this is one of them this time of year.
Permalink Reply by T A A on November 25, 2012 at 5:02pm I love hot weather, but Canadians have no southern land possessions, we are stuck in our cold, due to ever more closed borders, while money experiences ever more open borders.
Permalink Reply by Judith van der Roos on November 25, 2012 at 9:07am I am a big fan of winters, longer, darker, colder the better though during daylight hours I like being out, especially as the polders freeze and we can ice skate. Used to like winter night walks but cannot do those now, not without an escort anyway.

Permalink Reply by Nate Lundgren on November 20, 2012 at 3:53pm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transhumanism It is mostly the idea that humans can be improved by using technology. We are already part of the transhumanist evolution if we use any sort of technology to augment our human limitations. I like this guys perspective on things.

Permalink Reply by T A A on November 20, 2012 at 4:16pm Pardon my language, I dislike dogmas, including Humanism, but TransHumanism, that is the stupidest dogma yet. Humanism is but godless Christianity, that's why I see it as entirely useless. I wish humans to be more at one with the environment that surrounds us, the anti-Christian viewpoint, TransHumanism is way off the chart for me... I've already lost a great deal of my humanity just having lengthly discussions with strangers on the internet, there's no way I want humans to pursue this trend any further than we have. There is so much more knowledge out there, why wish for this, I don't know.
I am reminded of some comments I posted yesterday online regarding "social searching" by Bing, wich the new search engine for Facebook (including Facebook location mappping). It dawned on me these are similar topics, we first came to the web to find out what was in the world beyond our little circle of friends, now Bing/Facebook is bringing the search back to within my circle of friends, USELESS!! People need to spend more time with other live/alive humans, including myself.
Permalink Reply by Nate Lundgren on November 20, 2012 at 4:34pm Have you even done any serious research into what humanism or transhumanism are? It seems like you are just giving a gut reaction based on very limited understanding of these things. If you enjoy being a luddite then go for it but I don't want to hear you cry about it. These are just lines of intellectual inquiry and in no way set dogmas that can't be altered like religious dogmas. So I totally disagree with your characterization of these things.
Exploring the boundaries of humanity is what intelligent people do and that in no way stifles our humanity. I'm not sure what your definition of humanity is and how you have somehow "lost" some of it by using computers etc.
If you need more human connection and real life friends that is not the fault of anyone but you and your own choices and actions. Having discussions with strangers on the Internet has expanded my humanity and given me new insights into their minds and feelings.
Look in the mirror before you just lash out and blame "dogma" and other things for your own grumpy perception of the world. Complaining and telling other people what they "need" is what I find to be "useless" I hope you don't lose any more of your humanity by talking with me. :P hahahahaha
