Hi there,

I don't believe we've met before. My name is Keith and I used to post on Think Atheist quite a lot. I've just received an email from you claiming that your Twitter account has been stolen.

Sorry for asking but I want to know the truth here. I questioned the person running @ThinkAtheist on twitter and he says that he was a partner with ThinkAthiest.com but ended his partnership last year.

What strikes me odd about this is that, there was never any notification that Think Atheist's Twitter was being dealt with another company. I also see that the follow us link is set up to still link to that Twitter account (which is being run by someone else). The person running the twitter has changed the web address in the about section to link to a new Facebook page called "Think Atheist Twitter" while your original account remains intact.

I find it hard to believe that a website would bother getting an outside company to look after their own Twitter.

But I am also curious about two other things from your end. Firstly what happened to Morgan Matthew? I thought he was the founder and the person who runs Think Atheist? Did he step down from his involvement of the site? Secondly you said in your email that you nor any of the other staff have not had access to your Twitter account since January 2nd 2015. Why then has it taken over a month to inform the members of Think Atheist about this? And if after all this time why has a member of staff (such as an Admin) not decided to manage a new Think Atheist twitter account?

Thanks Keith for your interest in this matter.

As you can see i am also asking him about his identity on his tweet https://twitter.com/ThinkAtheist/status/567769550792302592 but he is not disclosing. He also deleted my first reply when i asked him about his identity.

You are right i should not link to that twitter account account now.

He has now deleted

https://www.facebook.com/ThinkAtheistTwitter

from twitter account after my announcement.

Morgan Matthew sold the community to Dan and i bought it from Dan.

I have no answer to why i informed late.

If members want a new twitter account, i shall create another.

Well thanks for the response Umar, that certainly explains a lot.

If you do have to make a new twitter account; I would like to offer the suggestion:

@ThinkAtheistForum

No worries about emailing us late, I'm sure its a lot of work running a forum such as this. Oh and please keep us informed if you do create a new Twitter; I will be following you if you do. I've no unfollowed that other account.

I was following Think Atheist on Twitter, so have seen this debate. He (presuming he?) insists that he came by the account legitimately. While he's definitely poor at public relations, there's no indication that he "stole" it, outside of your claim that it was part of a contract. Since most of us were not aware of the sold, sold, and sold again process, some updates would be really welcome.

As to the rest:

If it was part of the contract, surely the person who sold it to you has the information that can back up your case to Twitter. Where is that person?

And, just to be clear, are you saying that neither you nor any of the moderators has any idea who this person is?

Edited to add: I rarely participate here, but it is a forum that I like. Thanks to all who went into creating it and to those who keep the space interesting.

It was included in the deal and i had working password. If i had changed password and email associated with account, this never happened.

You might have missed it. He (Dan) had a comment on this topic. It went off topic. I think some mod (Reg) deleted some replies. He never paid attention to such details like me. He was not the creator of twitter account.

When twitter account was stolen, i was informed by Dan that it was a shared account. Probably more than 3 users had access to that account.

And, just to be clear, are you saying that neither you nor any of the moderators has any idea who this person is?

Yes, we don't know who is running that account. I have asked him but he is not revealing his identity as you can see yourself from image below.

It is useless to argue with him on his tweet https://twitter.com/ThinkAtheist/status/567769550792302592

He is deleting replies that are against him.

Yeah I'm not going to bother arguing with him anymore. Have you tried speaking with a customer care team from Twitter themselves?

I contacted twitter support. They are asking for email associated with the account that i do not know.

Twitter account was included in the deal and i had working password. I being lazy and careless did not change it and also never checked what email was associated.

Thanks for your support. Also thanks to https://twitter.com/emilyhasbooks

No problem. Well if you can't get access to the email it was associated with; it seems that ThinkAtheist.com will need a new Twitter page.

As I suggested before I think @ThiinkAtheistForum may be an appropriate alternative

I was concerned when I saw the Patreon link on the Think Atheist Twitter Facebook community, which was linked on the Twitter account.  If he was not affiliated with the website, then why was he raising money?

He responded that it was a test and that it had been deleted.  The link was still on the page and active (posted 5 days ago).  I pointed that out to him, and he deactivated the Patreon.  I believe the tweets about this have been deleted.

Well he seems to have entirely blocked me at this point from the Twitter page

I left a comment and I was blocked from the twitter feed.

There was a tweet about having sincere conversations. I commented "It is difficult to have sincere conversations when content is summarily deleted".

I was blocked within minutes.

Very nasty stuff. I wonder how much of the atheist blogging, commentary, social media and forums are really just business.
