Tin foil cap on Do you think the Catholic Church made the bible so long to discourage people from reading it?

I know nothing about the creation of the bible, so I admit it's unlikely conjecture. It was just a funny thought that occurred to me while pondering the fact that so many christians know so little about their own holy book.

Your biggest problems with this are going to be that the Catholic Church didn't exist when the Bible was written and that none of the authors of the Bible were writing a "Bible". They had no idea that their work would ultimately be included in a multi-volume set the way they came to be. They were just writing for their individual faith communities.
