So recently there was an email sent out (by my father, to the rest of the family) and it was basically saying that all Democrats hate god and blah blah blah, nation dying blah blah blah, here are some bible verses. After some intense discussion where most of my family shat on my beliefs and called me stupid, I started a discussion with my father asking him to not include me on these types of emails in the future. He then said that I need to change my ways and I emailed him back instances where religion has failed and should not be involved in government. This was his response:

Permalink Reply by Amanda Mrakovich on October 31, 2012 at 11:12pm Indeed. Unfortunately, my father is a born again xtain and wouldn't take kindly to some catholic priest telling him that he is wrong. Especially since he thinks that catholics don't go to heaven. XD
Although I loved the video.

Permalink Reply by Stutz on November 1, 2012 at 12:36am Goddamit, arch, that was both stupid and hilarious. F you for making me giggle just then.
Permalink Reply by archaeopteryx on November 1, 2012 at 12:42am Actually Stutz, you'd be surprised just how often those two phrases are used to describe me --
Permalink Reply by archaeopteryx on November 1, 2012 at 9:35am Problem is, his descriptions all begin with, "Uhh..."
Yep, just that little old air-freshener, me --

I think this is a good video for your dad to watch maybe? Anyway, my brother said it best to me when I was feeling bad about how my parents felt when I came out as an atheist, he said to just live a good and successful life to show them that atheists are still great people even if they don't agree with most of what they were taught by their parents. He has done this but he also did a smart thing by moving away from my parents and only having limited talks with them about religion after he kicked the religious beliefs to the curb. Sometimes parents just can't be reasoned with and you have to find a way to separate yourself emotionally from them (physically and socially too if they are too extreme in their negative feelings towards you)
It goes a long way if you treat them with respect and kindness even when they may not return the same. If they have normal human feelings they will feel guilty about treating you poorly when you don't treat them that way. I hope this video helps and I suggest that explaining your positions and educating them about atheism will help them in the long run to accept you for who you are in reality. Family love is stronger than religion and wins out in the end most of the time. Good luck with everything.

I hope it never gets to this point Amanda, I know how much it would hurt you if it did.
