the May 22nd business is as stupid as you'd think. most of them will keep on believing even when the prophecy fails. that's how believers respond to the failure of prophecy. it's a well studied phenomenon.

Just like the great let down in the 19th century I think it was. And then there was one a few years before my time. I wonder why they must have such an odd obsession with the destruction of our world. On the minuscule chance it occurs, it'll be one hell of a party ^^ and we'll get the last laugh too

The popularization of the term "Rapture" is associated with the teaching of John Nelson Darby, prominent among the Plymouth Brethren, and the rise of premillennialism and dispensationalism in English-speaking churches at the end of the 19th century. In 1908, the doctrine of the rapture was further popularized by an evangelist named William Eugene Blackstone, whose book, Jesus is Coming, sold more than one million copies.      I've seen these people for years in the Times Square Subway tunnel wolk thru's.   I've talked to one of them just about a month ago asking him what happens on May 22nd if they are still here.   He said he couldn't answer that because that would be doubting his faith.    It will be interesting to see if any of them take their lives or some other crazy action.   Remember the Jehovah Witnesses said the same thing back in 1975 and for years they had to put up with the laughter and snide comments made at them.

      I'm still rooting for the Mayans!
