He want to make a positive transformation so that christianity will be seen in a more positive light. I'm sure that there are countless churches across the country with this same motive. He wants to change the "bad image," though there are several fundamental problems.
1) He ignores the fact that there is no evidence for his god. Skeptics don't care if you are a good or bad person in terms of believing in the supernatural. We look only at the evidence for your claims.
2) The Christian right IS pushing their agenda on everyone. And it's the huge number of moderates that give them the power to do this. Rather than "changing" christianity, it only adds more strength to the current movement.
