Michael Nugent is a prominent Irish atheist. He has done a stellar job of analysing the recent Cloyne Report into Irish RCC sponsored and protected child abuse.
The interesting piece here is the many lies - and excuses for lying - put out by the RCC clergy. It's staggering!
The cognitive disonance for Catholics must be enormous now. They believe on the one hand in this ultra-orthodox, centralised organisation, with claims to infallibility (yes - I know how those claims apply) and a strict belief system from which you cannot vary; at the same time - certainly in Europe - most pew Catholics are socially pretty liberal, apart from on life issues.
So how do you reconcile attempting to be a decent person with remaining Catholic?
