Well to start off, my parents are a bit unpredictable. I have no Idea how they will react when (if) tell them that I am an Atheist. I do know, however, that they do not think I am capable of making important decisions by myself. My mother, particularily. she will probably disregard anything I say based on that "I am too young to make a decision like that" or "I don't know what I am talking about". I need a way to tell them that will make them listen without interrupting me or ending the discussion prematurely, as I know they probably will if I am not assertive. The problem is, I have been going to church (methodest) for over 5 years and am just now realizing that I am an Atheist. The reason I need to tell them is that they are going to make me take confirmation classes and join the church, which I REALLY don't want to do. Any Help is appreciated.

Thank you for Your Time.

I'd reply, but I don't have much to say. I'm older than "confirmation classes" age, but I still haven't figured out how to tell my parents yet, and I haven't yet hit a situation like you where I feel like I have to.

Hang in there, there are a LOT of people on this board who are willing to talk and offer advice. Give it a few days. You'll find Reg the Fronky Farmer has a lot of good things to say.

And welcome to TA, by the way. I hope you'll find like I did that this is a pretty special group of people who can offer a whole range of perspectives.
