You mean like visit Breitbart and watch Fox News?
Actually, there have been petitions to get Trump off Twitter. Here is Twitter's non-reply.
The Secret Service didn't even let President Obama - who is, of course, much more adult and measured in his speech - have his own Twitter until toward the end of his presidency.
A president's words matter, and Trump is an impulsive child in a 70-year-old's body. His use of Twitter to spread lies and propaganda, tweet insults at anyone that he thinks has said something not so nice about him, to attack the free press and the judiciary - is dangerous. Someone needs to reign him in.
Twitter's CEO excuses his service by saying "I believe it's really important to hear directly from our leadership. I believe it's really important to hold him accountable. And I believe it's really important to have these conversations out in the open rather than behind closed doors." (source)
It's just sad to see Terms of Service designed to protect the public from just the sort of defamation and general abuse Trump uses it for waived for just one person who in no way deserves the platform.
From a platform perspective, it should be pulled out from under him.
From a "keeping one eye in your opponent" perspective, I think I WOULD rather he blather his "thoughts" on a regular basis, so we DO know what he's "thinking".
Its a "Devil you Know" vs one you don't scenario.
Tweets become evidence, later, as well, etc.
His base is going to be ok with him eating babies, and nothing he does will matter one way or the other, confirmation bias etc, will take care of their views of Twittler.
Everyone ELSE will be progressively more and more aware of who he is, and, at some point, he'll eat one too many babies....for their tastes.
“If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.”
― George Orwell
“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an ass of yourself.”
― Oscar Wilde
“My own opinion is enough for me, and I claim the right to have it defended against any consensus, any majority, anywhere, any place, any time. And anyone who disagrees with this can pick a number, get in line, and kiss my ass.”
― Christopher Hitchens
As I see it ALL CITIZENS have the right of free speech that goes for Twitter users including Donnie Boy.
No. All the First Amendment guarantees is that you won't be jailed/punished by the government for speaking. That's it. It does not guarantee a lack of consequences for said speech.
As a presidential candidate, Trump's reckless words brought our standing in the world down. As president, they are downright dangerous to America, its citizens, and the world. Plus, Twitter is a private platform. Plenty of people have been banned from there for harassment, threats, hate speech, etc. That is in their TOS. Kind of like if we break the rules here, we can be banned. That's not a First Amendment violation. It's a decision by the people who own the space.
Trump is president, and his Twitter habits are a danger to the republic at this time. If his handlers cared about the country, they'd forbid him to tweet. If Twitter actually followed their own TOS, they'd ban him.
I think the owners of Twitter are stuck between a rock and a hard place, damned if they do enforce their TOS and damned if they don't enforce their TOS.
