Have you ever had an experience of something not known to or accepted by the scientific community? It is so bizarre to know something is possible that is considered impossible by mainstream sources of information. I'm confident that it will be studied and accepted in the future but due to the stigma of my position I would not disclose the experience to those outside of my closest confidants.*
*In an effort not to seem paranoid, woo, or spiritual, I will disclose that I'm not getting probed by aliens, seeing Bigfoot in my backyard, communing with ley lines, or self-diagnosing "morgellons disease."
There are many things that science still cannot explain, however this does not equate to supernatural or any such thing, it's just "unexplained" for the moment, I have had several experiences in my 52 years on this planet, as a youth I used to believe in the supernatural and aliens visiting the earth, but now the things I do not understand I just tag with "unexplained".
But one thing I do know, the mind is very powerful and can create many things that seem very real, so real that you don't even consider things like hallucinations, on very rare occasions I hear a single female voice and all it says is my name once, could this be my long dead mother or just my mind wishing I could have spoke with her before she passed away?, the latter makes more sense to me given what the brain can do especially with emotions.
At least "aliens visiting the earth" would be a naturalistic phenomenon IF it were true... the supernatural is by definition outside of nature, and thus outside of existence.
Unexplained it is...and totally fricking awesome.
Ignorance is not a virtue, you have not told us of your experience, I can only summarize that you fear there maybe a logical answer and don't want to know, that's not a good way forward, even when presented with very powerful arguments it's how some of the religious maintain their faith, they choose to ignore other possibilities.
I don't fear a logical "answer, " rather, I anticipate the day when this experience is studied and understood by science. I would like to know why it occurs. I am sure there is a logical answer because it is a natural phenomenon.

Jumping to the conclusion that something unexplained implies something supernatural is essentially thinking like a theist, for whom anything that doesn't currently or yet have an explanation indicates that there is evidence for God. Science doesn't jump to conclusions and can live with the lack of an explanation while an explanation is sought. The lack of an explanation doesn't mean that science is wrong, just that it hasn't gotten there yet.
He said it. *ducks*
"due to the stigma of my position"
Are you referring to your employment situation?
Would it be possible to elaborate a little further about this experience? And what is it about the nature of this event that makes you reluctant to share it with others outside your closest friends?
I got a job a while back actually. By "the stigma of my position," I mean having an experience with something not acknowledged by science. No, I cannot get into too many specifics because of this. I will say that I have stumbled across a large group of people on the internet who report the same experience(s) which is what drew my attention to the fact that it is not experienced by everyone. I thought it was normal, because it has happened throughout my life.
I must have missed something during my socialization, damn training films...;p)
This 'disease' seems to be dramatized in some SF movies I have seen. Sadly the offending 'organism' often times finds it's rather inappropriate exit...
lol...I think it's a type of paranoia where people believe they have plant fibers growing out of their skin. They believe it is a giant conspiracy covered up by corporations and the government, perhaps related to poisoning. I wonder if the chemicals poisoning them have actually more to do with illegal drugs. :-) I kind of pity them...but it's also somewhat funny...reminds me of that animated Keanu Reeves film....ah, the things you discover on youtube.
Sadly, I find some of this paranoia with a local Occupy group, environmentalists, and obviously 'politicos'. Sorting the crap to find a signal, IE 'honest educated/informed data set or opinion' is often rather hard. I, most of the time, just let it blow over me and keep to the more obvious details about corporate fraud.
I recently spent a few weeks studing some of the base line data and studies for drivers of global warming, even extracting a few interesting regression equations for forest carbon sequesture and emissions. I was supprised to find an inverse correlation of tree carbon sequesture with temperature(the higher the temperature, the lower tree storage of carbon), and a direct correlation with soil CO2 emissions with temperature. We might have to be more concerned about soil CO2 emissions than the human emissions in time.
Sometimes I notice the gross level of ignorance, in myself(sadly at times), with family, and friends. It would be a life time study, just to stay ahead of the 'creative' crap that spins out of delusion, paranoia, and ignorance. Just watching the news sometimes offers an insight into the creation of cah-cah. I feel the viseral desire, at times, to give it up, and say to the next deluded fool, 'yes I love angels, they bring we coffee in the morning, and take the mulch bucket to our garden twice a week'.
