It never fails. It seems I can't post anything on my facebook anymore without sparking some sort of debate. This time I post an interesting article about skink evolution and got attacked with anti evolution rhetoric. Just wondering how you all would respond to this? Also, feel free to discuss. Thanks.
That is very true doone. I have also always wondered why life needs to have this all encompassing purpose in order for it to exist or be a good life? Cant we just live, love and learn and be happy with that?
You have to understand how much propaganda and pseudoscience is being pumped into their heads. When I was in early highschool, I was a creationist too; I should have known it was BS. Literally, I possessed the scientific knowledge from going to advanced classes that would debunk every single argument I used, but it was like I had closed off that part of my mind to rational scrutiny.
Just this beautiful, complex
Wonderfully unfathomable, NATURAL world?
How does it so fail to hold our attention
That we have to diminish it with the invention
Of cheap, man-made Myths and Monsters?
If you’re so into Shakespeare
Lend me your ear:
“To gild refined gold, to paint the lily,
To throw perfume on the violet… is just fucking silly”
Or something like that"

Oneof the reasons I left a religious forum and joined an atheistic forum was because I was sick and tired of the stupidity of creationists. There's only so much ignorance that can be considered acceptable, and creationism is flat out shamefully idiotic. Period. There is a fundamental problem in arguing with creationists - they don't value logic or reason, so no amount of reasoining will ever change them. They're emotionally tied to their creation story and that's it.
Samuel, u do have a lot. Actually I would say as many as 300+ of my friends are extreme fundamentalist christians. I used to be one myself and all of my family is as well. Most people in my area tend to be fundies also. Makes life as an atheist rather interesting to say the least.
Skeptics shouldn't "BELIEVE" in evolution. I completely agree... the operative word here is 'believe'. Skeptics should go with the evidence which supports the most attacked scientific theory in the history of man and continues to withstand the test of time. Belief is for religion.
If there ever is another theory to replace evolution it will have to explain the same things that evolution does and more. What do we have as an alternative?..... NOTHING
If creationists want an opposing scientific theory they need to get off their ass and do the research and study that supports one. BUT THEY DON'T. They can't even define a 'kind'.
Put up or shut up!
young earth creationists are the worst... Ask them to explain huge limestone karsts buried over a mile deep. Ask them to explain shared retro-viruses between chimps and humans but not other 'kinds'.
Here's an interesting article from a geophysicist working for an oil company who made the transition from young earth creationist to old earth creationist based upon the evidence he encountered in the field.... I don't know what his ideology is today....anyway its very interesting. He asks some of the best questions.
