My wife and I are trying to have a baby. One of the biggest concerns we have if it is a boy is circumcision. I am circumcised and my first reaction is to say "Well I wouldn't go back so it is the right choice". But unfortunately there is more to it than that. Circumcision started, in my mind, to remove sexual pleasure from the male because sex was the road to sin and only for reproduction and should not be enjoyed. Many nerves are removed from circumcision and I have heard sex is more pleasurable for males not circumcised, but unfortunately that is hard to know for sure.

Then there is the idea that it is a part of our culture now and completely acceptable. But what is it really other than male genital mutilation? They say that is is healthier, but I have also heard that the data for that claim is inconclusive.

Female circumcision disgust me and yet many cultures practice it. To them it is normal. I am sure that uncircumcised females in those cultures have "ugly" vaginas to them just as a lot of women have told me that an uncircumcised penis is "ugly".

I have seen a circumcision and it is horrifying. I dont know if I should do this to my future son. There is the part of me that thinks it is normal and I should. Then there is the part of me that sees it as another brutal religious act setup by an ancient brutal god to remove our sexuality that we, for some reason, still practice like idiots. Then we go through all this trouble to "prove" it is healthy to mutilate sex organs to justify the insane act.

What are some of your thoughts on this?

Ok, wow - just spent the last hour reading about men's junk.  You got a lot more going on down there than I ever thought possible.  Seriously, the studies show one thing and then the opposite, depending on the methodology, both medical and statistical, and seem to vary far more geographically than by foreskin status.

So far, it seems very clear that keeping it clean and wrapped up does a lot more than circumcision.  The problem is that the same can be said of abstinence vs safe sex.  On the other hand, we might live in a more responsible world if young fellers were given more responsibility for their willy.

I can't see any clear justification for circumcision at all, but I can see some clear risks associated with the procedure.  How is this thread still alive?

Im trying to ignore it now, however my BBM wont stop going off with every reply lol

There is a 'stop following' link somewhere under the original post (just in case you weren't aware).  Although, if you click 'stop following' then post again (for whatever reason), I think it reverts to following status.

I didn't know that , Thank you :)

Get your kid cut, he'll thank you for it and so will his future sex partners.

Personally I think circumcision should be the choice of an adult when he is old enough to make that choice for themselves. Such a choice should never be made for the child. In my view its child abuse and mutilation.

By that point it would have been too late. He'd already have been made fun of and felt rejection because of it.

Its only too late when the circumcision has been done, as it cannot be undone. I have never been circumcised and have had no problems, then again many men in my country and indeed most of Europe tend to be uncut.

I had an exboyfriend from South Africa who voluntarily had a circumcision, which I respected. But at the same time, it just wasn't the same as the full thing lol

I think thats the point.

Ok well my point is, that not every circumcised male is happy that part of his penis is missing. I think many American's claim they want to be circumcised because its evolved from a religious tradition to a cultural tradition.

The foreskin does actually contribute to pleasure during sex, and I'm speaking from experience.

FYI there are at least 4 functions of the "tiny bit of skin":
1. Protects the glans from hardening which would decrease stimulation.
2. Moves back and forth during intercourse which stimulates those nerves.
3. Keeps the corona of the glans from pulling out lubrication during the back stroke. Dryness would decrease pleasure for both partners.
4. It stimulates the nerves in the corona as it moves back and forth.

Female anatomy provides a sexual lubricant. I don't need extra skin for that

That's sad.
