My wife and I are trying to have a baby. One of the biggest concerns we have if it is a boy is circumcision. I am circumcised and my first reaction is to say "Well I wouldn't go back so it is the right choice". But unfortunately there is more to it than that. Circumcision started, in my mind, to remove sexual pleasure from the male because sex was the road to sin and only for reproduction and should not be enjoyed. Many nerves are removed from circumcision and I have heard sex is more pleasurable for males not circumcised, but unfortunately that is hard to know for sure.

Then there is the idea that it is a part of our culture now and completely acceptable. But what is it really other than male genital mutilation? They say that is is healthier, but I have also heard that the data for that claim is inconclusive.

Female circumcision disgust me and yet many cultures practice it. To them it is normal. I am sure that uncircumcised females in those cultures have "ugly" vaginas to them just as a lot of women have told me that an uncircumcised penis is "ugly".

I have seen a circumcision and it is horrifying. I dont know if I should do this to my future son. There is the part of me that thinks it is normal and I should. Then there is the part of me that sees it as another brutal religious act setup by an ancient brutal god to remove our sexuality that we, for some reason, still practice like idiots. Then we go through all this trouble to "prove" it is healthy to mutilate sex organs to justify the insane act.

What are some of your thoughts on this?

things may be worse with an uncut johnson

That is quite untrue, when an uncircumcised penis is not erect the foreskin protects the entire head of the penis against friction. I can happily not wear any kind of underwear on a hiking trip and not experience any negative effects except indignation from my fellow hikers.

I would urge you gently to please not do this to your son. When he's old enough, he'll decide if he wants it circumcised. But it does remove a lot of sexual pleasure and can't be undone. Some cite cultural reasons, but it's mostly only dominant in Jewish culture. Also, some do it for cleanliness, but that's like removing an eyelid because you're tired of cleaning out eye boogers.

I keep hearing this complaint that circumcision removes a lot of sexual pleasure (mostly from females, strangely). Folks, the glans is by far the most sensitive part of the johnson and it is not cut off. Any more pleasure (speaking for myself) and I think premature ejaculation would become a problem.

EW:P "I keep hearing this complaint that circumcision removes a lot of sexual pleasure (mostly from females, strangely)."

Maybe they're trying to tell you something --

RE: "Any more pleasure (speaking for myself) and I think premature ejaculation would become a problem."

Clearly you have not yet learned the art of having your mind control your body - can you snatch the pebble from my hand, Grasshopper?

Don't you remember your mother telling you "If you're going outside, wear your hat"?

To me the sheath of skin, from an evolutionary standpoint, served as a limited form of physical protection for the penis. As neanderthals running around hunting and gathering it was definitely a good thing to have IMO.

If you clean yourself properly the foreskin should not be an issue or breeding ground for "creepy crawlies." It is an unnecessary mutilation that has religious overtones. I wish I had been given the choice to have the procedure performed or not. Mother Nature and evolution did a very good job at getting us to this point. Why screw with it?

'If you clean yourself properly the foreskin should not be an issue or breeding ground for "creepy crawlies."'

That's a big "if."

It is not a big "if" at all, in countries where circumcision is not a common practice there isn't an issue with infections. Parents are explained how to take care of a child, just as you should clean the ears you should clean the penis too. It's not a complicated procedure at all.

Since it is a highly debated subject where opinions are quite diverse, and taking the (near) irreversible nature of the procedure in account wouldn't this decision have to be made by the child itself?

I believe that I can speak for many people from cultures/countries where RIC is not common I am quite literally shocked by the fact that secular people would defend this religious practice. No medical association recommends RIC, and where normally "us" secularists grab science at the first possible moment, reason is apparently unwanted the moment we discuss our genitalia.

"Don't be a fool, wrap your tool!", in the Netherlands, parents of kids 12, 13 year old give them condoms, at school we are explained why and how condoms work, as well as that we get proper education about sex, both the positive and the potential negative. Girls are warned for "loverboys" (pimps that exploit young girls) and boys are explained about their sexual urges and condoms.

When I was in school, we had people visiting that showed us pictures of genitalia infected by STD's. These pictures are forever ingrained in my mind and I have happily used condoms throughout my life.

RIC is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist and it's simply a religious practice that has rooted itself into a secular system, similar to how courts can send people to AA. It's utter hogwash.

Well, Jaret, it sounds to me as though you know the answer to your question.  You know you should not cut off any part of a baby.  You do not list several of the usual motives to cut that piece of penis off.

1. You don't want him to have something you lack.

2. You think he belongs to you and is your property to do with as you please.

3. You can get away with it legally.

4. Who would blame you?

5. Like you, even with less capacity for pleasure, he'll never know what he's missing - what you are considering paying someone to slice off.

All in all, this gives you an opportunity to show your love, empathy, and compassion for your son, and your control over your own selfish urges to hurt him.

You hold the knife daddy, it's up to you!

You know at first this thread was just weird but now it's funny. All the insecure men still trying to confirm how their own type of dick is the only right one. It's almost like a religious discussion.

Please speak more about that consent stuff, and also some of that health benefit. And don't forget to force your opinion like the pro-life nuts do with abortion. lol

You keep coming back to the supposed matter of insecurity, is this your own bias perhaps?

Don't tell me you don't notice it. All the guys trying to take cheap shots at the other side ;P

There are obviously some hurt feelings here. We're talking about the men's most important part, it's normal for people to get all hissy. Especially when someone says "yours looks ugly", and if it's coming from a woman it probably hurts all the more. We could have the same discussion about penis length or girth and you would see the same people on different ends of the spectrum protesting against this or that. You'd have people citing pulled-out-the-ass sources that clearly show how their own dick size is the best, heh.

Right now this discussion is just

"bla bla bla don't get him circumcised, it's wrong! because I'm not circumcised!"

vs

"bla bla bla get him circumcised, it's not wrong! because I'm circumcised!"

Then when a woman tells her opinion, whatever side she's on is like "oh thank you for a woman to confirm us! See, people? Hah!" lol
