Nobody appointed the U.S. as police or watchdogs.  However, the world did effectively appoint the U.N. as such, and I would love to hear a credible argument stating that the U.N. is effective at anything but evasion of justice for dictators and despots.

I'd much rather see our troops in Libya helping the people there than killing people in Iraq and Afghanistan for oil or whatever greedy motivation is at work.

I'm very much a Pacifist.
It disgusts me how much money the United States is wasting and has wasted on our current two wars and how many military bases we operate.

UGH! It makes me so angry to think about all of the money the U.S. wastes. That was one of my reasons for bringing up the fact that we are providing other countries with healthcare but we aren't providing it to our own.

What is this "healthcare" being provided for other countries? You aren't referring to money used to fight HIV or malaria in Africa, are you? That is wasted money?

So we should get out of Afghanistan and allow female genital mutilation to continue?  So it is OK to go to Libya and kill people?  Isolationism is the answer and the moral imperative.  The US cannot dictate the morality of other nations.  We need to produce our own energy resources and leave everyone else alone and let the chips fall where they may.  American involvement in Islamic fundamentalist countries does nothing but add to the problem.  If we did go into Libya would it not also be for oil?

I don't think they should NOT be anywhere helping. The military is not a humanitarian aid group. They should be used in defense of our nation and that is it.

 

The peace corps could assist or some NGO, but the Libya issue is none of our business. What the citizens there want to do about their form of government is up to them. Anytime we "assist" in a matter like that, we are essentially taking sides with either government or rebels.

 

Only in matters of natural disaster should we even consider assistance.

Anyway, The US have done a good job in "Operation Desert Storm" and helped arabs.

Saudis and Kuwaitis might, Iraqis less so.

It was an unnecessary war, it was a criminal war and the sanctions that ensued from it where of genocidal proportions. The Iraqis fought the Iran-Iraq war for Kuwaitis also. Iraq, then an ally of the US (and enthusiastically supported by later neocons) lended some 14 billion dollar of the Kuwaiti's, who were glad to buy themselves an army that way, to buy American, European and Russian weapons, among which the nerve gas Saddam used against Kurds in the Anfal campaign (think Halabja.)

After the Iran-Iraq war the Kuwaiti's insisted on immediate full repay, aggressively crippling the post-war rebuilding of Iraqi economy. That was an act of war on the part of the Kuwaiti's against Iraq.

Then we had the successful propaganda from Hill & Knowlton with the babies-taken-out-of-incubators-and-thrown-on-the-floor story to whip up the Americans into a frenzy and not much later we had Basra covered in depleted uranium, untold deaths and suffering, sanctions that caused an excess of a half a million Iraqi children not see their sixth birthday, soaring prevalence in birth-defects, child-cancers that went untreated because even painkillers were prohibited as being "dual use" material.

The Gulf war was one of the greatest crimes of the twentieth century.
