I am not for war, but is it sometimes necessary? Ask Americans why we are at war and you will get different answers.
We provide healthcare for other countries when thousands of Americans can't afford insurance. We put our troops in danger for another country's "freedom". We have alliances that make enemies of other countries. We supply and support Israel. All for what? How exactly does this benefit America?
Should we continue doing what we have been doing or should we just stay over here and mind our own business? I am eager to see how other atheists view this.

Permalink Reply by Jaume on February 22, 2011 at 3:15pm You're way too rational for this irrational world. Your president Eisenhower saw the threat coming and warned the country against it, to no avail it seems. Like it was unavoidable. The cost of tanks, etc. - that's what keeps the MIC alive, and it's here to stay. It'd take the total collapse of the US economy to kill the beast - or a major social revolution.

I liked your courage comments!
The Shock Doctrine and Confessions...are great books! They also make you wonder if 95% of the US is asleep or just doesn't care. I think Albert hit it right on the head, as far as people even knowing where another country is or what is/has been going on there, most people do not. Ask someone in the weapons, pharmaceuticals, or oil business, and they know exactly where you are talking about and have an "informed" (said with a smirk) opinion on the goings on and HOW the US should "fix it".
No one needs our help - they need us to stay the hell out of their business! As is typical of - don't everybody freak out - old white men, they believe with all of their religious souls that they have the RIGHT to be in everybody's business - even in this country.

The power structure that rules the USA (multinationals, seeds/pesticides, pharmaceuticals, alcohol, tobacco, guns an MIC) have taken the old art of propaganda and turned it into an exact science. Another example of a good science going bad. One needs only to spend some time in marketing classes at university to understand the incredible power of tapping into the human subconscious to accomplish your aims. Those 95% of people, mostly religious, mostly under-literate, simply do not have the tools to fight the science of marketing/propaganda. Members of the political elite purposefully make political debates look stupid and hateful in order to make people hate politicians/politics. In so doing, people drop out of democracy. The 95% are not at fault per se, they are only slaves. They are parents and homeowners, who are always only one paycheck away from poverty, living their life in fear of losing their material comforts. It is hopeless to try and change those 95%, it's the top 5% that must be removed, in order for the remainder to deal a new game.

But how?
