Rosh Hashanah School Holiday
Today is the start of Rosh Hashanah and my children are off of school here in south florida. I understand most holidays but why do our children have to miss out on there education because of a religious holiday (including christmas). My girls are not complaining but when i ask them why they have the day off they tell me its some jewish holiday. I as an atheist try to explain to them that this is an important day in the jewish faith and that they should learn about it since they are not in school. They just laugh and say to me that they are going out to play all day. I dont believe children should be let out of school for a religious holiday even christmas because I believe there education is more important.

Education is certainly important, but I don't agree with your Rosh Hashanah conspiracy theory. Yesterday was a teacher planning day in many public school districts.
As for Christmas, I think of it as a generic cultural holiday and it doesn't bother me at all if my kids are off for any holidays, flag days, yay war days, or famous people birthdays. If they didn't get off school once in a while, they'd get burned out during the year.

I agree. I don't think children should get holidays for religious faiths, period. But all in all that's the least of my concerns with our school boards. But it does make me sigh.
Ps here in California the kiddies did not get that day off.
