The Fort Hood shootings offer yet another example of the media's obsession with digging up any plausible cause for a religious hate crime other than the most obvious -- religion. Islam is not a "religion of peace," nor is Christianity. Both are a mixed bag, but the ultimate moral act in each religion is submission to God's will, even if God's will is immoral. Sure, most people use their religion for solace and moral instruction, but the justification for violence is at the core of all three Abrahamic faiths.

The Center for Inquiry put out an interesting statement that makes a similar point, specifically regarding Major Hasan. http://www.centerforinquiry.net/news/cfi_releases_statement_from_ib...

Most religious people are not terrorists. Most terrorists are religious people.
Just wait until an unbalanced person who happens to not believe or can be vaguely shown to have not believed in god, publicly shoots something up for the American national media, there will be pitchforks and torches.
