hey everyone, just wanted to explain that the reason you'll find that the music playlist you may have created on your profile page has disappeared is that the feature hasn't been renewed. the feature's cost per month had been upped and after considering how many people used the feature (and to what extent those people did use the feature) it was decided that it just wasn't worth the increased cost.

that said, there is a way that you can still keep music on your page. Michel Poisson has pointed out that you can go to Playlist.com and create a playlist of music after which you can embed that playlist on your page. go to Michel's page and check out how the playlist looks once embedded.

thanks!

One problem.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but Playlist.com is only available in the United States
that's odd. Michel's in Canada...
oh well, looks like doone has some alternatives at his link.
lol. ah, yes, that's right! :)
I understand the cost issue - but wish it could be retained, for this reason.

I just read the page that Doone linked to - and just personally - they all sound like a massive step down from what we had.

8track:
This is a good choice if you aren’t tied to the idea that your music player must be like a jukebox and only play songs you want in the order you want.

What if I am?

Podsnack
However, the free player will only allow you to play 1:30 of your songs.

Hardly seems worth the effort.

Playlist.com
From Michel's Page
Due to licensing restrictions some or all tracks may be unavailable for playback in your country.

As I noted Playlist is only available if you reside in the continental United States, which some of us do not.

All the others appear to be you can listen to songs the company selects from it's service to add to your playlist. Which is fine I suppose if what you want is to have the latest 50 Cent or Gorrilaz track. What I enjoyed about the former service, was that I could upload a few tracks off albums I own which aren't commonly available or part of the top 10 hits. They were orchestral pieces, which I liked listening to while browsing the forums. I couldn't give a flying hoot about what's popular.

So if my only option is to listen to what other people decide I can listen to, frankly I'll just load up Itunes (or damn it - switch on my CD player which I haven't done in years...)
totally understand what you're saying Richard. it's not at all an ideal situation.
Appreciate that Nelson. :-)

File me under "D" for Disgruntled.
Hi Michel

If I go to your page I get this message.

Due to licensing restrictions some or all tracks may be unavailable for playback in your country.

All the tracks are in grey and can't be selected and the app is completely non functional except for scroll.

On the playlist website, I did just a seach for "foo fighters" and I got a song ("everlong") to play (woo!) I also just did a search for "ghostbusters" - one of the orchestrated scores I had on my page was ghostbusters, and amid all pages of Ray Parker theme songs, I did locate a 1 minute excerpt of Bernstein's score I could play back (again: woo!) - but not a track I would have selected. ;-) - like the wonderfully creepy "Fridge" which emboldened I just searched for and unsurprisingly did not find. I also tried finding "Dana's Theme", - which is a bit more common and I hoped might be on there. It has this beautiful Theramin in it. "This search produced 0 results" did I mean "Barry"?

So that's the search.

However, if I click "join us", I get this:

So I think the only conclusion I can reach is playlist.com isn't meant for us benighted Europeans.
I just listen to Pandora in another window... I put on my mix of favorites and enjoy the heck out of it. You can't beat the price tag. http://www.pandora.com
thanks Wesley, yeah, Pandora is a great alternative as well.
Will take a look. :-)
Pandora:

Dear Pandora Visitor,

We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.
