hi all

i believe Theism explains best our existence, and i believe, the God that revealed himself in the bible, is the creator of all that exists. What are my reasons to believe so ?

1. The universe had a beginning, therefore a cause. Since beyond our universe, there was no time, no space, and no matter,  that cause must be timeless, beginningless, eternal, spaceless, transcendent, invisible, personal, incredibly powerful. That description fits best to the God of the bible.
2. The universe is finely tuned to permit life on our planet. Over 120 fine tune constants are know up to know, and as more time pasts, more are discovered. This might be due to chance, to physical need, or to design. Chance is a very bad explanation. Some advocate a Multiverse. But to have just one life permitting universe, you need 1 to 10^500 attempts to get it done. Thats a 1 with 500 zeros. If we put it in comparison, that in our universe, there exist around 10^80 atoms, this shows how improbable it is, that a Multiverse could explain finetuning. It could not be by physical need, since if so, why are there many planets, which are not life permitting, but our is ?  So its best explained by design. Our earth/solar/moon system is a very strong evidence. Our solar system is embedded at the right position in our galaxy, neither too close, nor too far from the center of the galaxy. Its also the only location, which alouds us to explore the universe, In a other location, and we would not see more than stellar clouds. The earth has the right distance from the sun, and so has the moon from the earth. The size of the moon, and the earth, is the right one. Our planet has the needed minerals, and water. It has the right atmosphere, and a ozon protecting mantle. Jupiter attracts all asteroids , avoiding these to fall to the earth, and make life impossible. The earths magnetic field protects us from the deadly rays of the sun. The velocity of rotation of the earth is just right. And so is the axial tilt of the earth. Beside this, volcano activities, earth quakes, the size of the crust of the earth, and more over 70 different paramenters must be just right. To believe, all these are just right by chance, needs a big leap of faith. This is indeed maibe the strongest argument for theism.
3. Life. Abiogenesis has not been able to explain the existence of life on earth. Science cannot explain it. There are strong reasons to believe, a natural origin is not probable, and a bad explanation. First of all, why whould dead rocks need to evolve, to create life ? Secondly, just one living cell is more complex than the most complex machine created by man. A living cell is irreducible complex. All parts must be on place, making a gradual evolution not possible.
Even the simplest cell needs DNA , which is a information carrier. Information is always created by a mind. There i no natural mechanism known to man, to create information. Information is by essence spiritual, and not physical. There is no bridge to cross the gulf from material to spiritual. Even through millions of years of evolution. Its not possible. Add to this the moral argument, experience of miracles, the testimony of the bible, and you have a nice case of theism.

Dude... I don't care about the little charts people have come up with to describe the level of atheism they're at. Atheism is a LACK of belief... in a deity. Nothing more, nothing less. It has nothing to due with faith. It is a LACK of faith... by definition!

I'm not taking a huge leap of faith by not believing Santa exists, am I? Santa is a fictional character created by humans, and a lack of belief in his is existence is the default setting. It is highly unlikely that Santa really exists and a "strong" disbeliever in him is not relying on faith or belief; they are, first of all, being quite sensible and, secondly, they were born not believing in (or being aware of the idea of) Santa. Let's try to think of all the things we don't believe that we never even think of on a day to day basis! Does our lack of belief in the FSM stem from faith? Does our lack of belief in the Russel's tiny orbiting teapot stem from faith? NO! You completely misunderstand what it means to be atheist (without belief).

Atheism and the Theory of Evolution actually have nothing to do with each other, although those viewpoints are commonly correlated. Being atheist does not necessitate a love of science or require vast knowledge of opposition to religion. It's as simple as someone stating they do not believe unicorns exist and NOTHING ELSE should be inferred by that lack of belief.
i put a big question mark on all these dating methods
Do you even know how they work? Probably not.
There are two genealogies for Jesus. Both lead through David. Both are listed as fathers of Joseph. Some argue that one of them if the line of Mary. More Importantly, Mark is the Original Gospel believed to have come from Q and he does not mention a virgin birth. Why would Mark not put it in such a important point if he's telling the Gospel of Q. Of course, Luke and Matthew derived their stories from Mark with some cool additions.

The Messianic Prophecy was that the New King would be from the line of David. He was to be anointed as King in the End of Days, just as everyone expects of Jesus. If you don't revere Jesus as "the Christ" aka "the Messiah", there is no reason for you to be a Christian. In order for him to be "the Messiah" you have to fulfill him as being in the line of David. The Bible does that laying out every generation from the first Adam, to the Last Adam (Jesus) This gives us a reference and a date that is approximately 6000 years (October 23rd, 4004 BCE according to James Ussher . In order to believe in Christianity, you must find this chronology critical (how books of the Bible carry the genealogies and it's not important?) to fulfilling Jesus as your God's promises. Or, you can say that the brilliant god spent time laying out these generations and prophecies, but it doesn't matter or affect the Theology. In which case you don't have the courage of believing your Bible and you are a Christian only due to popularity.

Let's say that Ussher was off by 100% in his guesses and inferences. The Earth is 12,000 years old. Does that work any better with the science? That's where I'm going. Either you believe in the theology of the Bible, or you believe in science, period. No Cherry Picking allowed.
Thank you by the way. I had to look up erudition. If you aren't careful, you'll teach me things.
there are two lines of creationism. Old earth creationism, and young earth creationism. While both have strong arguments, i have not yet examined all of them, to have a own opinion on the issue yet.
Old earth creationism, and young earth creationism. While both have strong arguments

They do? When will you begin to trot them out? Dispense with all the nonsense already.
Um. You should. Because creationism is utterly stupid and both forms have NO strong arguments.
haha
Please present a better explanation of our existence.
Ummm... you're not really interested in a better explanation. You like your explanation best. You try to understand what evolution is by reading a Christian apologist's interpretation of it. Of course they're not going to make it sound like a legit process! Try reading about the better (i.e. superior) explanation for our existence in one of the many books our members have suggested for you. I dare you.
Poor Angelo. He's doomed for delusion, it appears. I hold out little hope that he can be reasoned with at all.
