Puzzled About Mirin Dajo

Not long ago I watched this video:

Even though the text is in German, the pictures say it all.   

I was utterly puzzled.  The history of dueling is a history of many men killed by blades run through their bodies.   What Mirin Dajo did just seems impossible, yet the movie seems and is presented as authentic.   

But if the movies are a fake, has ever been debunked, how they were made?

Here someone suggests the explanation, that Mirin Dajo could have grown fistulas through his body.

But suggestions without any evidence are not sufficient for such a strange achievement.     
Mirin Dajo claimed to have been made invulnerable by god.   Any alternative to override such claims needs evidence, that what he did is biologically possible.   
 
Here is my question to anybody familiar with medical or biological research:   

Has anybody ever tried to replicate on animals, what Mirin Dajo did to his body?   

If Mirin Dajo created fistulas in his body, it should be possible to create such fistulas in lab rats until they can be pierced with small foils without being harmed.
