Which is why I posted that in reply to your post. Thanks. Consider it a non-credit assignment (unless you can wangle some credit out of them.) :-)

Thats interesting Sam ... I didnt know that he was the runner up.
Permalink Reply by Kris Feenstra on March 13, 2013 at 6:30pm I haven't really looked into him, but I did scope out a few of the candidates. It occurred to me that they were not looking to find a new Pope, but rather give the old Pope a new face, name and regional origin. The only thing I can say about the Catholic doublespeak on issues such as homosexuality is that it leaves a gap for liberal Roman Catholics to interpret the Church's stance as acceptance when in practice, it's as homophobic as ever. When it comes to such issues, give someone an inch to believe what they want to believe and they'll take a mile.
I thought it was really funny when they were showing us the candidates, they had two token black guys in there ... As if to say ... 'Hey were hip" .. But we all knew that there was no way a black Pope would ever be elected...
Permalink Reply by Kris Feenstra on March 13, 2013 at 6:55pm I think they want Africa to bolster their numbers as it may be a more accessible market for expansion than others.
Permalink Reply by Professor Robert on March 14, 2013 at 12:20am That's the American news media, Angela, not the Catholic Church. There's no such thing as a papal "candidate", and certainly no PR group within the Curia who would even know what "hip" meant <g>.

The pope's recent venture into the world of Twitter would disagree. If that is not a sad attempt to appeal to the internet generation, I don't know what is.
Permalink Reply by Logicallunatic on March 13, 2013 at 7:57pm From a little research, he's anti-contraception and anti-gay so yes he is an irrational zealot. It's garbage in and garbage out as usual with the Raping Catholic Church.
