Arguments, that convince you, strong atheism is true. If you are not a strong atheist, but a weak one, don't argue with this question. its not for you. Its for the ones, that positively assert, most probably God does not exist. Please don't base it on a negative ( the bible is worthless etc....), but positive arguments, which do make strong atheism stand on its own right.

Yep, it *is* very similar. It's hard to read it not walking away convinced these narratives were shared. We see similar things in the corpus we call today the "Book of the Dead" and Proverbs. Amazing! It seems a tall order to think these syncopes didn't come from the same author/s; and I'm not talking about the Author of All Things, either.

I've read the Roman and Orthodox Canon, the Apocrypha, the Pseudopigrapha and several different protestant translations; from the NASB to the Message. I've also read compilations of scripture in the form of the Tanakh and I have read the Quran. All of these I have read several times. From what I recall they are all chock full of barbaric violence, sexism, racism and genocide; to name a few. I would also note that they are loaded with bizarre, delusional and fantastical stories that I could easily tell were make-believe by the time I was 12 years old. I realize that many adherents are emotionally attached to these stories and I do not mean any disrespect, I'm just telling you how I reacted to it.
I know others will read things differently, and I will grant you that the degree softens in the NT, but I think the statement made is fairly representative of the corpus literally and in terms of the motif it paints.

Based on that, you conclude, most probably God does not exist ?!!!
What a argument......
Permalink Reply by James on January 11, 2012 at 9:28pm From my experience, atheist's don't tend to use the ugliness of the Bible to conclude that there is no god. Such a conclusion isn't a logical conclusion to that context. Existence can't be weighed solely on reported character. However, we do bring that up to those that claim that the Bible is morally perfect, or that you can't be moral without religion.

So then, please explain, why there is morality, and how someone can be moral and set a objective standard, if God does not exist.
Permalink Reply by James on January 11, 2012 at 11:32pm It's actually not hard to explain morality without a god. Before I or anyone else bothers answering your question, may I ask if you are even open to hearing and considering a god-free explanation?
Also, don't you at least admit that the Bible isn't 100% morally perfect?

of course. thats what i am asking for. go ahead.....

I believe God is morally perfect. And so his word, and his commands are.

Of course not. Your "morality" is just as subjective as anyone's. Your "god's morality" is no different than an alien's morality, just another opinion. What makes you think your "god's morality" is objective???

Because he afraid that, if he thinks otherwise, his "god" will torture hima and kill him. That's what his "holy scripture" says.
