Arguments, that convince you, strong atheism is true. If you are not a strong atheist, but a weak one, don't argue with this question. its not for you. Its for the ones, that positively assert, most probably God does not exist. Please don't base it on a negative ( the bible is worthless etc....), but positive arguments, which do make strong atheism stand on its own right.

It says in the KJ version:

1. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

If you want take the liberty based on nothing that "heaven" could also be replaced with the modern concept of "universe" of which the authors didn't and couldn't have the slightest notion. Then it would be a very strange omission, or perhaps deliberately misleading, to skip past a 10 billion years interval and suggest simultaneity by putting heaven and earth in conjunction. Instead of misleading believers the supposedly divinely inspired authors should have enlightened the devout by saying something like:

"1. In the beginning God created the heaven and after waiting 10 billion years for the heaven to cool down to a few temperature units above absolute zero started creating the earth by not interfering with the contraction of the remnants of a supernova explosion."

"1. In the beginning God created the heaven and after waiting 10 billion years for the heaven to cool down to a few temperature units above absolute zero started creating the earth by not interfering with the contraction of the remnants of a supernova explosion."

And how many people do you think would understand that, even today ? the bible is not a scientific book.

Correct, the Bible is not a scientific book.

Then why, according to the bible, were the plants (created on the 3rd day) created before the sun, moon, and stars (created on the 4th day)?  The biblical story of creation is not an allegory for what actually happened.  It's a myth, like all the other ancient creation myths.  Even people of that time would have understood that the sun and stars were created before/at the same time as the earth.

Genesis 1:11-19

Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so.  The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.

And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.  God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

And Angelo nobody was talking about the bible until you mentioned it. You were the one who started quoting verses. What happens now? Can't you deffend the account of Genesis ;).

like.

Hey Angelo,

Well, I guess I could make the same request of you. I think you should start a thread that asks if there are any atheists willing to positively disprove the existence of "gods". That is not what strong atheism is, at least not as I understand it.

Angelo you are only here looking for controversy and attention. You only know how to copy paste bible and pseudo scientific articles. Seriously, you have some circular thought pattern.

Hmm, wonder if we can ask Matthew for an "ignore member" feature, like most forums have. Angelo is a great example of why we should have it...

Exactly, this type of people cant be taken serious, he asks why we don't believe in god and then say our opinions are "worthless" and he "doesn't give a damn", he's very cynical, and members have not disrispected him.

Actually, he is asking two different questions, and is acting as if they are the same one. He clearly doesn't understand that the two statements - one being "I don't believe there is a god", and the other being "I believe there are no gods" - are very different. Either that, or he is, again, dishonest and only claims that those two statements are the same.

All in all, we're dealing with a person who is very dishonest (like most jesusist apologetics, no surprise there), and completely scientifically, logically and rhetorically illiterate on top of that. All the way from his first post, he has shown nothing but deliberate ignorance concerning (at least) the scientific method and the ethics of arguing.
