I had a discussion earlier about the pope, but I've stepped back a second and have been wondering if Atheists should be concerned about who is the pope. If we should, why?

My personal view is that as Atheists we should worry about who is the pope and look at him critically. Why? Because, like it or not, he is the leader of the Catholic Church and quite a lot of followers around the world. The dogmas that the pope spreads can mean the difference between life and death for the very people that religion tries to "save". Saying save, to me, seems really bad. When they say "save" they mean souls, not human lives. It makes me sad to think about sometimes, but alas, I cannot escape it if I wish to speak out against it.

Yes I agree with you for the same reason. The Pope still has a lot of power and influence over the world. For example of not allowing condoms which is contributing to the spread of AIDs around Africa. We need to combat that their ideology with rational and logical way of thinking.
