Well his support of nuclear disarm, plus his work to patch-up some of the relations that Bush screwed up, seems to be some contributing factors in the Nobel. But with the panel secrecy, by the time we know why he won it we probably won't care anymore.

Who knows on the Olympics; but it does seem a little like they wanted to give it to anyone-but-the-US.

From my perspective, it seems the Nobel panel seems to be a less corruptible, while the Olympic panel seems to be rife with corruption. But that's just my speculation from some reading and some of the media reports.
Just think if we won the Olympics and had Obama win the Nobel the republicans would be bitching about both committees being corrupt.
I think it is interesting that we are still in Iraq and Afghanistan. I say this because this was his core message when running for office.

One thing I have learned over the years is that you do not send in tanks to kill field mice when a cat can do the job better. What I mean is that terrorism if fought with police not with the worlds military's.

A great president understands this. Time will only tell if Obama understands this. Perhaps this is a step/push in the right direction for him.

Or by taking out the support base for terrorism with better policies. Then you don't even need that police presence.
I am going to have to agree with Johnny on this:

This is driving the right-wing absolutely nuts in the U.S. Read any blog today...any blog...and you'll see the most vile and disgusting comments I've think I've seen yet.

This is getting absolutely ridiculous. The leaders of the right wing of this country I think have gone insane. I'm really serious about this. Their blind hatred is going to be something that future sociologists and psychologists are going to have symposiums on for decades about what's going on right now.

The people on the political left need to get serious about this. The traditional news and information outlets need to stop giving this kind of stuff any traction by giving it a "legitimate" forum. They need to be treated like we treat every other fringe group--let us know who they are, give us a few quotes to laugh at, and then let them stew in their hatred alone.

The fact that the Nobel Committee decided to give this to Obama less than a year in office means a couple of things:

1) By comparison to past leaders, he stands out
2) By comparison to current leaders, he stands out

No one else--future or past--deserved it more. You can argue about this, but anyone you come up with will be in the same ballpark as Obama. There is no one who is head and should above what he's tried to do.

That that's the fucking sad part. There's no one else.
Have you seen this video Nix? I agree with you.

It puzzles me. It really does seem like more of a "for what we hope you're going to do" than an acknowledgment of what he has done.
Wiki: **Unlike the other Nobel Prizes, which recognize completed scientific or literary accomplishment, the Nobel Peace Prize may be awarded to persons or organizations that are in the process of resolving a conflict or creating peace.**
Good to know; the awarding makes more sense if it is more of an acknowledgment of efforts to foster peace rather than a congratulatory commendation on achieving peace.
The ah-ha! moment just clicked for me.
Johnny wins again!
