Hi, I'm Eric, and I now consider myself an athiest. I discovered this site through stumbleupon.com and nearly every time it brought me here, I gave whatever random pic or discussion a thumbs up. Thus, I finally decided to join so that I could start posting articles and adding to discussions myself.
More about me: A long time ago I was a christian. My family didn't really go to church or anything, but I did pray every now and again, and I was babtised Chatholic. As I started to age, and thus develope my own opinions about the world, I started to realize that most religions of the world held the same basic principles (don't kill, don't steal, ect...), at which point I shifted from a narrow sighted christian to what I consider Agnostic (belief in God, not in religion). As an agnostic I developed a belief that god, devine being, whatever, revealed itself to various people in various ways, thus various religions with various interpretations, however it would best be recieved. Finally, after seeing enough intolerance, hate, and irrational rage being spewed from religion, and reason, critical thinking, and intolerance toward intolerance (couldn't think of a better way to say it) from those on this site, I realized the futility in clinging to an ideallistic dream and submit to reality. Only now that I accept the fact that the world is driven by man, not god, can I hope to make a difference for the better.
Hi Eric, welcome to Think Atheist. Glad to hear you escaped from Christianity :)
Didn't escape really. More like...wandered off...about 10-15 years ago. The shift from what I call Agnostic to Athiest was much more refreshing.
