This is awful, just awful. U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) was shot. According to the Tucson Sun she was shot in the head. Here is coverage from HuffPo and MSNBC:

This makes me sick to my stomach.

Permalink Reply by Kelin420 on January 9, 2011 at 6:28am My condolences to the families of the people killed and injured- particularly the 9 yr old girl. Another loony whatever inspired him Right and/or Left- or delusional space aliens from Arcturus- I don't want to speculate till more info is available on possible motive...
So I wanted to read the whole thread before I posted this sickness on top of this already violent incident to make sure I wasn't repeating, repeating, repeating...
I got the link from Twitter and it's to another atheist site- The UAF- sorry Mods if I'm not supposed to do that...
But our favorite Whacked-Out Wing-Nuts at the Westboro Baptist Church wasted no time in jumping on this tragic story:

Permalink Reply by Christopher Bricklemyer on January 9, 2011 at 11:04am Wait, "God sent violent veterans?" This "press release" might just be the weakest thing I've seen yet from them. He was not a veteran, he couldn't even get in the military. And, if God was sending him to specifically kill the "fag-promoting, baby-killing, proud sinner," (their words, not mine) Congresswoman, then why is she still alive? I thought their God's judgment was final and absolute. It seems that she is in between life and death right now. If God wanted her to live, he's failed. I God wanted her dead, he's failed.
And, one more thing, wouldn't God have better ways to kill people than through someone else? After all, this is the guy that caused the great floods.
What a bunch of douches. I want to fight them. All of them. Especially the ones that will picket Christina-Taylor Green's funeral.

Al-Qaida's supporters on the web are cheering the attempted assassination of "the enemy of God" U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

Permalink Reply by Cathleen Sessions on January 9, 2011 at 4:59pm The man may have just been a very disturbed person. We do not take very good care of disturbed persons in this country. Yes the Left has had violent people, the Weather Underground, ELF, and others. However I don't know of any politician, commentator or newsperson who has advocated their action, ignored their actions or condoned their actions.
You have free speech but you can't yell fire in a crowded theater. You also cannot encourage carzy people to kill other people you do not like. I have been afraid of the comments coming out of the right for years. They will not take responsiblity for their words.
As a liberal and an atheist I have felt like I had a target on my back in my own community for years. Now I feel that even more.
But I am not going to let fear shut me up.
