Hi. I've collected a bunch of my old clothes which could be donated to a charity of some sort, but I am quite opposed to giving anything to religious charities. I live in Dallas, Texas, so finding a secular charity is rather difficult. I'm not looking for any secularism-supporting charity, necessarily, but I don't want anything with a reiligious orientation. Does anyone here know of such a thing within my area?
In Austin, there is a group called Atheists Helping the Homeless that does care packages for homeless folks around here. I think that they generally do care packages (toothpaste, soap, clean socks), but they might be able to give you a better idea of what non-religious charities are in the Dallas area.
Hope this helps!
Goodwill is secular, and I believe they have locations all over the nation. You should be able to find one in your area.
This page has quite a few secular links:
I'm not sure. Isn't Goodwill secular?
It didn't start out that way, but yes it is now.
As another atheist, I think giving clothes to religious charities, can be considered 'OK'. This might be one case where the 'right thing' is still possible..
Im not sure if BigBrothers/BigSisters is secular or not....but we donate a lot of our clothes and stuff to it. We put it out on the curb and they come pick it up. http://www.bbbs.org/site/c.9iILI3NGKhK6F/b.5962335/k.4DD4/Start_Som...
Isn't Oxfam secular?
