certain content around the community will have a little heart next to it with the word "Like". clicking this is a way to say that you like the content (obviously) but in doing so it also gets dropped into the section of your page titled "My Likes".

for instance, Monica's blog post about tomorrow night's podcast featuring Phil Plait. if you scroll to the bottom of her post, just above the first comments, you'll see the option to "Like" the post.

you can do this with videos and pictures posted in those respective sections too. :)
