by Kirk Cameron has gone too far! But we can stop him - Facebook

On Thursday November 19, 2009, Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort (the banana guy) will be distributing 50,000 copies of Charles Darwin's 'Origin of Species' at universities across America to students for free.

Each copy will have a 50 page intro about how evolution has never been proven and how Darwin helped inspire the Holocaust.

You can watch this video for more information:

Or read the 50 page intro here:

If this outrages you, then you're not alone. There's something we can do though. We can amass as many of these books as possible, remove the 50 page intro, and then donate perfectly good copies of 'Origin of Species' to schools, libraries, and Goodwill. We can actually make this into something positive.

If you are in college, then you are in a good position to help. Check your campus on November 19th, and if you see a group distributing copies of the book, then get as many as you can. Get a copy for yourself, ask if you can have extra copies for your friends, ask your friends to go ask for copies, and ask other people you see carrying the book if you can have their copy.

This is a shameful thing that Kirk Cameron and the Banana Guy are doing by altering another person's book in order to push their agenda. But we can help to restore the book to how it was intended and keep young minds from being brainwashed by misinformation.

No shit. I'm reading Bart Eriman's Misquoting Jesus right now, and it goes into a great amount of detail on the variations and versions of the Bible that have developed, mutated and evolved over the centuries.

The variations caused by mis-copying, mis-translation, mis-abbreviation, 'correcting' words, adding words, subtracting words, altering text to conform to current beliefs, re-altering text to try to return to the original, and so forth are legion.
That book keeps getting mentioned. It's almost like God is trying to tell me to read it. Well, I can't let my clone have any exclusive knowledge over me, so to Amazon I go (via the TA portal, of course!).
It's definitely an interesting read, particularly for anyone interested in how current beliefs developed.

The section on the translation from the Greek that the King James version was based on was particularly interesting. The KJV was based on a version of the Bible which was translated from poor and incomplete copies of the Greek manuscripts. So it's a badly done version of a badly done version....
Sounds very interesting. My "to read" stack is growing faster than I can read them.
I have the same problem. Too many books, not enough time.
I've read that book, and another by Bart Ehrman called Lost Christianities which is equally awesome, and equally recommended by me to friends. That one describes many of the dead sects of Christianity, some of which were wildly different from what exist today, and would be barely recognizable as such. Fascinating stuff.
My Romanian princess smacks down Comfort and Cameron. I'm sure this is posted in the video section as well.

I <3 Criss.
that's one of the best responses I've ever heard
Here is the 3 video's I made about creationism :]

Unfortunetely even if the 50 page intro's are removed the book itself has been "abridged". If I recall correctly the original book is something on the order of 400 pages long, this version is only just over 200.. counting the 50 page intro. Who knows what they've removed/reworded and how damaging the text itself may very well be. Thats whats even scarier to me than the obviously bogus intro, which may very well be there simply to draw attention to itself and make people forget that the text itself is also changed.
At 3:23 in the video, Cameron says "This is a beautiful 304 page full color cover edition of Darwin's famous Origin of Species book."

Looking at some of the editions on Amazon, the shortest one I find is 336 pages; but most of them range from 480 to 576.
