In the news right now is the beheading of the investigative journalist James Foley. Do you believe that it is their religion that is pushing on them to be the 'best' (relatively speaking) that they can be, or has religion now just became the excuse for the rampant activities that are done every day?
Do you think the irradication of religion will stop the violence or do people need to learn how to be better people? Or both?

This is without a doubt religion driven. These terrorists are looking for a world religion (Islam). Anyone who disagrees or anyone who won't switch religion is killed. I wish it was as simple as eradicating religion to solve this problem, but people of every faith are already set in their ways and will not give up their beliefs. Religion inspires people to be hateful and vigorous. Religions of peace do not exist unless you agree with the followers.
I think this group hides behind the trappings of Islam; they need it. They find support because of it. But with or without religion these pricks are just psychopathic criminals. The drug cartels in Central and South America use many of the same tactics to terrorize and control the locals without religious pretense. They don't need to use religion to attract support because they are swimming in oceans of cash and can buy whatever arms and pay whatever soldiers they need.
