I am a non religious theist

I cant think of a good arguement for religion other than from a social standpoint.

I am big on culture and heritage and feel sad when that gets lost in society ... and many times that includes religious rituals and customs.

some societies have managed to hang on to such culture while the religion has long gone ... such as celtic/pagan cultures... which I feel is fine

many societies have adopted religions from other cultures and it doesnt quite work so well .. such as the introduction of Christianity to the west , which dominated and rid many places of their own culture.

religion does bring communities together .. but the downside to that is that is also excludes people.

If communities could be brought together for the cultural aspect rather than the religious aspect that would be great .. but there does seem to be a lack of community these days where religion is dying out.

religion needs replacing with something else if we are going to make it as communities and not just individuals going it alone .

Religion needs to be eliminated, not replaced.

 

I guess there's really no argument supporting religion in your reply, at least not a good one like the original poster wanted.

I applogise for not meeting your standards , although I did state initially in my reply that I cant think of a good arguement for religion.

perhaps instead of trying to bring people down .. you should read a little more carefully.

After that I was expecting a good argument from a social standpoint. There was none. That's why I replied, not to bring you down. Perhaps you should read a little more carefully what you write too. ;)

You seem to not want a thread to go off in tangents, but you provide arguments like this one, which is exactly the opposite of what Aaron asked for, and doing exactly what you don't like.

 

Religion does not bring communities together. The communities seem together after years and years of terror and force-fed beliefs.

I would be curious whether you have a good argument for the existence of a deity, as you seem to believe in one.

I like to keep my replies relevant to what is being asked because this is becoming rather tedious when I answer a question and am met with the same thing time and time again ... then the threads go off in tangents .

OK, I understand. But could you provide a link to where you offered a good argument for the existence of a god?

 

P.S. "But I can't think of any argument which makes logical sense that does support the existence of god, accuracy of the bible, or the justification of a religion before." 

The answer to my question would have been relevant to the discussion.

Interesting! So, are you basing your beliefs on personal experience, without having any objective argument for them? If that's true, do you think that personal experience is more important than objective facts?

I have no evidence of God .. that is what you are asking basically

I answered no

I have a lot of " personal evidence " for my experiences which suggest to me there is a God and have looked at my experiences objectively

I am basing what I believe on my experiences .. yes

I am open to being wrong and changing my beliefs should I find alternative answers for my experiences ... so no my beliefs are not more important than facts

I have spent the past 12 years discussing them and looking for answers and yes some of my beliefs have changed or been dropped when finding out I could be/have been wrong about certain things.

but I still have experiences for which I have no alternative answers and still remain theist ( for the moment )

however .. that is not why I am on this forum and I am sorry if I come across a little annoyed .. but I have been frustrated since joining this forum , as I came to discuss things which I agree upon with like minded people .. which is usually atheists lol

but constantly having to explain my beliefs
