Truth is, if there was solid evidence for the existence of God, it then would be a point of fact with no room for faith.

Therefore is it possible that the continued neutrality is being sustain by God for our benefit?

RE: "Why did god allow it to be destroyed - if that was his house" - because the Jews didn't kiss his ass they way he wanted them to (Jews kiss ass from right to left, rather then left to right, as we heathens do), so he did that and had the people taken into the Babylonian captivity as punishment. That's when much of the Torah was written, not by Moses, but by Jewish priests and zealots in captivity, in an effort to regain control of the Jewish people.

Interestingly, when they were finally freed when Babylon (in Iraq) was conquered by the Persians (Iranians), many of the Jews stayed in Babylon, rather than going back to Palestine.
