The all-male Iowa Supreme Court said Friday that it would reconsider its 2012 ruling that a dentist acted legally when he fired an assistant that he found attractive simply because he and his wife viewed the woman as a threat to their marriage.
Melissa Nelson, who had sued the dentist for gender discrimination, had fought against the court’s decision.
"Not only does this breathe new life into her court case, it eliminates what many of us believed was a harmful legal and misguided precedent," her lawyer told ABC News.
A Des Moines lawyer with no role in the case told the network that the justices will likely issue a new opinion.
"There really is no reason to grant rehearing six months after the decision was made unless someone is seriously considering changing their mind," Ryan Koopmans, the lawyer, told ABC News. "I think we'll definitely see at least one opinion in favor of Melissa, the question is whether it is the majority opinion or dissenting opinion." (read more)
Yeah, he has a problem: his wife, who ordered him to fire her, probably because he said "Melissa is so hot! It is so hard to do a root canal with a raging hard-on." too many times at the dinner table.
I kind of wonder what the state of his marriage is now, what with this thing being in the news, especially locally there in Des Moines. LOL
And, you know, the thing is she's kind of pretty but, really, she's not what most people would cite as an example of total hotness.
Is there a picture of his wife, for comparison purposes?
BTW, the above is actually a photo of Darcelle XV, a Portland, OR, celebrity and cross-dresser. Darcelle XV is also the name of the cabaret club she operates. Her club's website is here.
Darcelle is so accepted in Portland that she is frequently invited to important public functions along with the Mayor, councilmen/women, and other celebrities. Few important public functions in Portland would be complete without the presence of Darcelle.
No wonder the city's unofficial slogan is "Keep Portland Weird!"
I've no doubt it became less so after you left.
Oh my! =D
You need to understand guythink. She's pretty for a 50 year old. Melissa is 32. Like any guy (you can include me) he'd rather take a shower with a 32 year old (or, better, an 18 year old) than a 50 year old. Sorry, but that's generally true.
That makes sense, in the context of your evolutionary drive to procreate - you'd instinctively be drawn to the more apparently fertile of the two.
It also makes me wonder if some of the passionate arguments for the pro-life lobby aren't based on our species drive to procreate - it might be hard wired into us to be repelled by envisaging reducing the reproductive rate deliberately.
I think that, while some pro-life people have cynical reasons for that view, we often tend to paint them all with that brush whereas I'm sure that many have very heartfelt, if misguided, pro-baby reasons for their beliefs. I know that includes at least one atheist here at TA.
Let's face it, nobody actually likes abortion. I can understand why pro-life people are against it, however, I'm pro-choice, not that it's ever going to be an issue. It's one of those problems with strong valid arguments for and against.
