(Ariel Castro)  was allowed to make a statement and it showed how deranged and sociopathic he is. In a rambling speech that focused mostly on himself, he made excuses for everything he did, refused all responsibility, and even made outrageous claims that the house where he tortured his victims was "normal" and "harmonious."

Castro has invented some kind of sick fantasy world in which the three women he kidnapped, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight, may have been unable to leave his house, but were otherwise fine and content.

"I'm a good person," he told the judge. "I'm not a violent person. There was a lot of harmony in that house."

He went on to say that sex with the victims was mostly consensual and that they asked himfor sex. "As God as my witness, I never tortured these victims, I never beat them," he claimed, despite reams of evidence to the contrary.

From the same source...

In his statement, Castro blamed his "sexual addiction" for his kidnapping of the women -- saying he couldn't control himself any more than an alcoholic could control drinking. He also blamed his "stressful" job as a bus driver. He even blamed the FBI for not questioning him sooner.

In his continued blaming of the victims, he said, "These girls were not virgins and had been with multiple partners before me. I did not prey on these women."

Oh, and he pulled a Ted Bundy, too, blaming his behavior on porn. However, I think most of us realize that we choose the porn that appeals to us. Porn does not create interests that aren't there, at least latently.

Any comments on this man or his sentence of life plus 1000 years?

I imagine he will get raped a lot in prison.  So Unseen is correct, he will hardly be living the life of Riley.

I truly hope he does not get raped, or that would mean the system is as bad as he is.  For us to relish that idea, shows our animalistic revenge impulses. I would rather he be simply bored out of his mind, and physically unmolested.

Getting raped is probably the only thing that can make him realize what pain he's caused. Maybe he should be institutionalized as insane rather than sane.

I agree that prison rape is something that should be actively prevented.  In a lot of places the guards simply turn a blind eye to it, apparently figuring that anyone in prison deserves it.  Well that's not in fact the case--even figuring "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" as a model of justice--as many crimes aren't nearly as heinous as being raped, and in many cases the rape starts before trial.

But if anyone does deserve it, it is surely this animal.

If he mixes with other prisoners, he may be murdered like Jeffrey Dahmer. On the other hand, he could be protected by being put in solitary the rest of his life, which some human rights organizations regard as a form of torture.

He'll not be treated well in prison. He might even kill himself. And it'll be cheaper than the state killing him. Brain science is picking up quickly too, so we might even learn useful info about his pathology.

Michelle Knight, 32, belittled Castro's routine of going to church and returning to abuse the women in the darkened Cleveland home, which was equipped with chains, locked doors and windows boarded up from the inside.

Maybe Jesus gave him strength to continue his "care" for his charges.

I guess those wafers must be loaded with something to give him the energy to continue.

Out of billions of humans, a few have to be defective. It's unfortunate they're not detected earlier.

One thing that mystifies me is that his brothers claim that they didn't know that he was doing this. How can you be a brother to someone and for ten years not visit him in his house and not realize what he was doing? Or realize that there was something strange going on.

@ Warren E. Jappe;

Do you know everything your brother did last year?  I don't.
