Has anyone ever thought of doing this before?

Churches do a lot of organized mission and volunteer work, and I would love to have opportunities to do that kind of thing with a community of people, but I would love even more to be able to openly do them because they are good to do, and not because God has called me to.

The point wouldn't be to spread any particular point of view; it would just be to help.

I wonder how I might go about this kind of thing, and how it might be received.
