I guess i will start out with saying i am a agnostic trying to find my way of the fence.
I came here to ask questions and hope this community is kinder then some out there in the world,
i don't like community's that are hostel to people like me who are agnostic
im posting this because i suck at introducing myself.
Welcome to Think Atheist! You've chosen a good place to join and discuss. There is a lot of support from the members here, and there are discussions and debates in almost all topics.
You may get some flak for being agnostic, but probably it'll just be from people who like to debate. I'm technically an agnostic atheist...I can't rule out the tiny possibility of God existing in some form...but I think it's more likely that humans invented God. I'm over 99.9 percent comfortable with atheism, so for simplicity's sake I call myself an atheist.
So what are you're thoughts on God and religion?
welcome. don't worry about being on the fence, its a stressful place to be, but you can make some interesting observations on it.
To tell the truth, I's rather have a conversation with an agnostic than someone that was so cretin of their atheistic views that they scoff at agnostic uncertainty.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy Think Atheist. You wont have to go far if you want to find debate here, half as far to find opinion, and no distance at all to find support on anything you can think of.
Welcome, Royal red.
I think you'll find the TA community more welcoming, as I don't think the prevailing view here is that agnosticism and atheism are at odds. There are different types of atheism-- hard and soft-- and different ways of describing non-theism or theism, such as the Dawkins' scale of theistic probability.
Note that some amount of uncertainty is inherent except at the extreme opposite ends, so you're never off the fence unless you declare with unquestioned, absolute certainty. I don't know of anyone who does that except for theists.
Richard Dawkins considers himself to be a 6.9 on his own scale (an agnostic or 'de facto atheist') since as a scientist he cannot claim to be 100% certain God does not exist.
guess I would be a 6.5. I'd say I was a 6.9, but that leaves no room to be more sure in the future without being certain :P
I'm new too. It is nice to see a community that shares the same values as I do (to a certain degree).
Don't be ashamed to say you are agnostic because people get judged all the time over religious views. You are who you are - don't change that.
I was once agnostic and then I started reading and questioning. In short, I became atheist/humanist and general follower of science. I am currently studying at university to become a teacher and religion is always brought up. In my group, we have your average non-believers, jewish, muslim and christian students.
In England, religious studies is compulsory in primary schools (5 - 11 yr olds). A lot of debates and opinions are expressed during our lessons because we all come from different backgrounds. I have learnt things about other religions by listening to the people in my class; I believe many books and the internet don't portray religions properly. What I am trying to say is this - people are going to judge you at a stone's throw away but it's the people who take the time to know you who really matter.
Take care :)
