Hi my name is George i live in Nottinghamshire, i started to wonder wether this whole "God" thing was all it was cracked up to be when i was 10 i am now 15 and i only know a little more than i did then. I no-longer consider myself CofE (Church of England). im still sceptical of what i'm comitting myself to when i say im an atheist. could someone clear it up a bit for me.

thank you

Hahaha! :P

I agree that "agnostic atheist" tends to be a bit redundant if we're really being honest with ourselves about our capacity for ultimate knowledge about the nature of gods and religion. However, I've known a lot of people who claim to be able to state unequivocally that gods do not exist (I dated one for a few years, even). I specify "agnostic atheist" to distance myself from that sort of "absolute" thinking. I fell into the trap of absolute thinking when I was a theist and I won't allow myself to be quite so closed to new evidence again.

Cheers for admitting we don't necessarily know the ultimate truth of reality. ;o)

Spot on!

I'd worry about anyone claiming absolute knowledge! I feel fine stating that god doesn't exist in much the same manner I am comfortable stating that other imaginary beings do not exist. It seems only the theists (or pedants) will respond to this by saying that we don't know for certain that their god doesn't exist. I just don't think their imaginary being should get special treatment or terminology when we discuss our nonbelief in it as opposed to any number of other imaginary things.

Ok...end rant. Stepping away from the keyboard!

;-)
Yeah, and I'd believe in Leprechauns if convincing evidence were produced.
You are condemning yourself to eternal damnation and everlasting torment in the fires of hell!
Or not.
If Satan is as bad as Christians portray him, then the most evil thing he could have done to ensure humanity's corruption is to create religion.
"a" = without
"theism" = the belief in a higher power or powers

That's all.
