An army is a blunt weapon. Send it into a populated area where the enemy doesn't wear a uniform and innocents are going to die. This is happening right now in Gaza. Many people are quick to blame Israel for these deaths, calling them "unnecessary" or even "war crimes."

Lately, Israel has had to endure unguided missiles raining down on its territory. Since they are unguided, the people launching them, Hamas soldiers, aren't conducting surgical strikes. In fact, it appears they  would be happy if they hit schools, hospitals, markets, and other heavily-populated targets.

So, imagine you are Israel. Do you have another way of attempting to put a stop to the daily barrage of missiles?

This is not an invitation to criticize the creation of Israel after WW2. It's not an invitation to criticize policies you think led up to Hamas.

I'm only asking what's the alternative to sending in its troops to attempt to drive Hamas out of Gaza?

But it's not irrelevant.  If they were looking for peace and safety, why did they choose the most disputed, the most savagely sought after, the most viciously defended, bloodiest parcel of land in the world?  Why not some nice easily defended island that is not also claimed by and surrounded by hundreds of millions of your blood enemies?

Clearly their goal was not peace, but rather to enforce their will and claim their "holy" ground, everyone else be damned.

Had you read the MERP primer on the history of the region you would know that formation of modern day Israel began at the end of WWI under the British colonial mandate and years before the founding of the Nazi party. It was after WWII when Israel received official recognition.

It should also be noted that Palestine was not the first choice for the creation of a Jewish state. Other locations included Uganda, Cyprus, and even Texas.

Gaza has a considerable reserve of natural gas in their territorial waters.

you know damn well there are more than two pits in a pear and other ways to skin Hamas with mishagas...

Well, don't stop there. Like what?

Israelis ought to act like Christians and muslims and fuck all ya all with shock and awe and gefilte fish and good bags and cheap shoes...

What a ridiculous inquiry it is to question Israel.

it is akin to Chief inspector kluzea...who asks....Do you have a license for your minkin as the bank is robbed up and down

The usa was acting with restraint after pearl harbor and would never do anything nefarious like blowing up citizens in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, would it?

just a bit of collateral damage, right? A sort of life imitating art in pointillism.

And the countless genocides and ethnic cleansings are to be brushed aside, true?

Just nonsense bullshit

This guy is just trying to get the overall picture.

Hamas was elected by the people of Gaza to lead them and this is where Hamas has led them.  The people of Gaza had a chance for a real and lasting peace, they chose Hamas instead, they have no one to blame but themselves.

They weren't given much of a choice, so they chose what they thought would be the lesser of two evils.
