An army is a blunt weapon. Send it into a populated area where the enemy doesn't wear a uniform and innocents are going to die. This is happening right now in Gaza. Many people are quick to blame Israel for these deaths, calling them "unnecessary" or even "war crimes."
Lately, Israel has had to endure unguided missiles raining down on its territory. Since they are unguided, the people launching them, Hamas soldiers, aren't conducting surgical strikes. In fact, it appears they would be happy if they hit schools, hospitals, markets, and other heavily-populated targets.
So, imagine you are Israel. Do you have another way of attempting to put a stop to the daily barrage of missiles?
This is not an invitation to criticize the creation of Israel after WW2. It's not an invitation to criticize policies you think led up to Hamas.
I'm only asking what's the alternative to sending in its troops to attempt to drive Hamas out of Gaza?
This is two years old.
This shows how easy it is to be angry and cynical, teach the controversy, but no solutions. How does this motivate anyone to act, other than with the certainty that anything they do can be justified?
I'm only asking what's the alternative to sending in its troops to attempt to cleanse Hamas out of Gaza?
Given that we're supposed to ignore Israeli occupation as relevant to this thread, that question must at least consider how well "cleansing Hamas out of Gaza" works, and killing Palestinians at the rate of 10 or more to 1 Israeli shouldn't it?
How about this? Start filling airspace with drones that can instantly fire on the origin of Palestinian rocket launches, and record the transaction for social media. Or swarming recording technology alone, for starters.
Killing at the rate of 10 to 1 should discourage the casual killing of Israelis. If not, then eventually the problem will solve itself in terms of there being a paucity of Palestinians.
Unseen, I have heard that, in parts of Texas and Montana, there are farms licensed raise wild game animals in pens where one can rent a rifle and for a fee one can bag a deer ot turkey. Unlike the animals on the game farms, a few of the Palestinians shoot back
You're ignoring who started the arms exchange. Israel wasn't firing into the Palestinian area until missiles started raining down on them. If the Israelis kill more Palestinians, well, they've always been the better shots.
And you are ignoring the fact that to the Palestinians Isreal is just another military invader who have stolen their land based upon a "holy" book none of us believe in.
If they think that lobbing missiles at a superior power is going to solve anything, let's just stand back and watch it play out.
It probably will in time, remember history is full of far superior powers eventually having to give the land they stole back to the far inferior(military speaking) native population. Isreal's only real long term option is full out genocide of the Palestinians , which is something that would probably loose them the backing of even the US, and without US backing Israel would be gone in a decade.
I don't think you can say with any degree of authority that the territory we now call Palestine/Israel was unoccupied by humans when the Palestinians got there, or that the Palestinians didn't militarily take it away from those people.
Maybe we should all take a hike backwards toward Africa. That's the ultimate philosophy you are espousing.
Unseen- There is a difference between land that was conquered and stolen hundreds, maybe even thousands of years ago which has been forgotten about outside of history books and land the was conquered and stolen a few decades ago within the lifetime of people still living there.
If Russia goes all out and invades and steals the whole of Ukraine, floods their land with Native Russians and then treats the native Ukrainians as third class citizens with nearly no rights I guess you will treat the native Ukrainians who are pissed off at that and resisting the vastly militarily superior Russians with guerrilla tactics with the same disdain as you treat the Palestinians? Or is consistency the bugaboo of a small mind.
Well, give it time, then.
The Ukraine has powerful friends.
So when a highly accurate video guided missile misses its mark by a quarter mile and hits aschool filled with civilian refugees, does that mean the civilians were the target or does it mean the Israelis are not that accurate?
Or could it be that Israel has dropped more than20,000 tones of explosives indiscriminately over Gaza in 2014?
