As a gay person, people have asked me on more than one occasion if I'm an atheist because I am gay.

My answer is no. Social position does nothing to raise the truth value of a claim, only certain people's tendencies to believe it. At best my sexuality only kept me from being unduly interested in becoming religious.

What are other perspectives? Does the church's view on sex/uality affect other people's religiosity?

I remember reading a few years ago that gays are more religious than people think. Even I, a lesbian, was pretty surprised by this. I figured, surely, gays and lesbians would reject religion because very few religions are tolerant of homosexuality. I can't think of any that are accepting.
Sure there are millions of Christians who are pro-gays rights and do not see homosexuality as morally wrong BUT officially, Christianity is not gay-friendly.

I've always been a skeptic but I did walk away from the church partly due to my sexuality. I left my church right when they were about to start the "sexual purity" series for the teens. Around that time I thought I was bisexual and I didn't feel like being attacked. I also knew I wouldn't be accepted at this particular church if I was honest about my sexuality.

I have also had people ask me if I'm an atheist because I'm gay. I'm an atheist because there has been no convincing evidence to prove an invisible deity; I just so happen to be a lesbian as well.

Wicca, from what I've heard/researched, is accepting of homosexuality (and of sexuality in itself).
