I wonder if anyone can provide an educated value for the following question?
How far behind are we? In terms of scientific progress how many "lost" years could we attribute to the last two thousand years of repression, fear and ignorance? Answers must include a modern day object or scientific advancement in its religion free timeline. i.e. a 747 flown by the Wright brothers.
Serious answers and silliness both welcome....

I mean if you only remove the dark age, which was about 500-600 years, assuming science came to a halt during that period, we should of had iphones around the time christopher columbus discovered america. With the rate technology increases now days, we would probably actually have hoverboards and flying cars by 2015 as depicted in Back to the Future 2. Unfortunately, it looks like we are going to fall short. But, there are two sides to the coin. Had religion not gotten in the way, we may have, through our unobstructed science, created a black hole by now and neither you nor I would even exist.
What back to the future does show us is we cannot even come close to guessing what the technological world will look like in 30 years. At the time, they thought we would have pizza hydrators that take a quarter sized pizza and hydrate it into a huge pizza. They thought we would have drying jacketts, hoverboards, flying cars, and wear two ties to work. However, they could not even conceive of a cellphone much less one that connected to the internet or the internet at all. I remember in the movie a lady in an antique store was talking about a book with a dust cover and that was before we invented dust proof paper. Obviously they didn't have the slightest idea something like a kindle or ipad was going to be around. They also had fax machines throughout the house.
I think we are better off as I am much happier with my iphone that connects the the unlimited data on the internet that I would be with a flying car.
If they were that off guessing 30 years in the future, how accurate could we possible be guessing an extra 600 years of advancement with no religious intervention like we still see today?
