Hello all. I tried joining Twitter recently only to find no-one I knew was on there but I found you. I've been meaning to sign up for ages. I am often found debating fundamentalist Christians on Answers and tonight I saw the best question ever! Am bursting to share it with people who would appreciate it so headed here! I'd give you the link but it was deleted very quickly.

About your pastor, tell him that water is a self-ionising chemical. This means that water is, in very small amounts, constantly reacting with itself to produce an acid and a base when then reacts again to produce water.

Ask him why everyone who has ever bathed hasn't 'melted'.
Permalink Reply by Helen Pluckrose on September 4, 2011 at 5:51am Oh,not my pastor,I'm an atheist - I was just sharing the funniest question I have ever seen on Answers with you all. Am very impressed with the politeness of your answer tho - with maybe just a smidgeon of sarcasm at the end? :)
Permalink Reply by Kelin420 on September 4, 2011 at 6:06am Sarcasm is hard on line- especially for most Americans, since you Brits forgot to give us much of any when you colonized the place. LOL
Permalink Reply by Helen Pluckrose on September 4, 2011 at 6:11am :-O Don't you believe it! I am learning from several American masters of the art on Answers! :)
Permalink Reply by Eoganacht on September 4, 2011 at 8:57pm Oh, sorry. The little bit in the middle was a quotation. I missed that.
Permalink Reply by Helen Pluckrose on September 4, 2011 at 5:20am Oops, you may have missed the part where I mock this lunatic - I'm not preaching - sharing a question I found incredibly funny in its ignorance from an American fundamentalist Christian! I am a British Atheist myself who thought others might enjoy this but I am learning that Americans get so much of this ignorance that it stops being funny.

Hello and welcome Helen
Maybe he's on to something with the acid.
I know what happened to me when I took it- I can't say I actually ever melted, but one time I did turn into Plastic Man and was very stretchy. Another time I saw a wall melt and re-asemble molecularly starting at the singularity through the big bang and cosmic evolution.
Maybe I was trippin'????
LOL
Permalink Reply by Frank Hamilton on September 4, 2011 at 10:51am No one who is a true FreeThinker expects you to believe anything you think is a lie. Evolution is a scientific fact, not an opinion. You can choose to accept that or not. Your pastor is not a scientist. What you are doing by using theological terminology to support your argument is enabling fundamentalism.
The simplistic view that DNA is just an acid shows the ignorance of how it works in the human body.
DNA is a building block to determine a life form, not something to melt it or tear it down. A basic course in biology would bring that into focus.
Permalink Reply by Helen Pluckrose on September 4, 2011 at 11:58am Agreed completely - Some people have missed the part of my post where I say that this is a quoted question on Yahoo Answers from a Fundamentalist Christian which I am sharing with you because I find it extremely funny. Less funny from the perspective of sane people surrounded by people like this - I suspect he would be very pleased to be told he is helping fundamentalism in any way.
Permalink Reply by Frankie Scott on September 4, 2011 at 11:12am Hi Helen, I am pretty new as well. And ya people like to ignore evolution alot here in The United States of Christianity.
Permalink Reply by ED BROWN on September 4, 2011 at 11:59am If ever there was an argument that illustrated the retarding effect of religion; here it is.
Permalink Reply by Eoganacht on September 4, 2011 at 9:02pm Or people who fell asleep during high school bio, chem, or physics classes. Lol. I'm in my last year in high school and I can debunk this stuff.
