I've been visiting this site for quite a while now, so i thought i'd better do the decent thing and register.
My name is Chris, i'm 38 from Glasgow, Scotland, married with 2 kids and i've been an atheist almost my whole life.
My parents are non-religious although my dad was brought up as a catholic and my mum as a protestant, so they decided not to enforce either religion on me and left it up to me to decide which path to take when i was old enough. I think i realised i was an atheist when i was about 8 or 9. When i was at school we got regular visits from the local church minister who would tell us stories from the bible and sing hymns. Even at this age i found a lot of the stories hard to believe, some of which made no sense what so ever.
As i grew older i distanced myself more and more from religion as i thought the only thing it did was divide people and cause un-neccessary trouble.
In recent years i now find myself with a deep mistrust and dislike for religion and any organistion that tries to brainwash people, or tries to scare people into believing their fairy tales. I would now consider myself a hardline atheist, although I do not go about enforcing my beliefs on other people, even my own kids.
Anyway, its nice to be here and hope to join in with a few discussions on here
You join a community that extends across the globe and your hello message is first commented on from someone living in the same city. Typical.
Nice to have you here. I was born in London, been in America almost my entire life, and my Mom was an Irish Catholic. I was brought up extremely strict Catholic but always questioned everything in my mind.
My Atheism stays inside my house luckily my children are non believers.
Brian, where abouts in Glasgow are you. I'm in Milton.
Trillianalice, my oldest kid, who is 9, has already told me he doesnt believe in "god", without any influence from me. My youngest is 5, she's a bit too young yet to understand it all, but hopefully she will follow her brother.
