The Higgs Boson doom is upon us! Researchers working on the Higgs Boson particle have discovered that the so-called "god particle," believed to be responsible for all mass in the known universe, contains a catastrophic secret.
The mass of the Higgs Boson particle, when applied to complex physics equations, reveals that the universe is structurally unstable and will one day destablize resulting in a true doomsday for everything everywhere.
"This calculation tells you that many tens of billions of years from now there'll be a catastrophe," said Joseph Lykken, a theoretical physicist at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Ill., Monday at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
The Higgs Boson doom prediction is based on what the Higgs Boson particle is and how it impacts the universe. The Higgs boson particle is a manifestation of an energy field pervading the universe called the Higgs field, which is thought to explain why particles have mass. After searching for decades for proof that this field and if the particle existed, physicists at the Large Hadron Collider announced in July 2012 that they'd discovered a new particle whose properties strongly suggest it is the Higgs boson.
"This discovery to me was personally astounding," I. Joseph Kroll, a University of Pennsylvania physicist who works at the LHC, told LiveScience.com. "To me, the Higgs was sort of, it might be there, it might not. The fact that it's there is really a tremendous accomplishment."
Many of the scientists studying the Higgs Boson particle believe that the team at the LHC has found the real deal. And pinpointing the mass of the Higgs Boson is what lead Lykken and his researchers to conclude that the vacuum of space is unstable. The Higgs Boson doom scenario won't be a drawn out event and will occur at light speed. But when it does happen, well, it's going to be a spectacular show.
"Fireballs of doom will form spontaneously and destroy the Universe," Lykken said at the meeting. (source)
It's not going to be "a spectacular show". One moment everything will appear as it always does, and the next, oblivion! That is, of course, if they are even close to what will happen.
