Hey everyone!! I've followed this site on Twitter and lurked for a while and finally figured, okay let's stop being lazy, how hard is it to click a few buttons and just become a member.. :)

I'm 25, live in NYC suburbs, work in a bookstore, which is actually pretty fun!

I won't bore everyone with my whole life story on here right now... Instead, I'll share more info on my beliefs/experiences as they become relevant in other discussions.

So on an entirely different note... I had a customer the other day asking for books about Indigo children... A topic with which I only have vague familiarity.. I've read a few things about it online tonight, and obviously it's a bunch of crap, but figured I would open it up for discussion if anyone has any interesting thoughts/stories on the matter? Have any of you guys ever met someone who claimed to be the parent of an "Indigo child??" Just curious.. I find this stuff fascinating. :)

Welcome to TA Sara!

I don't really know anything about indigo kids; but finding out Jenny McCarthy thought her kid was one up until the point she found out he had autism, pretty much made me think it was complete crap.
Ugh Jenny McCarthy... she was so much cooler back in her "Singled Out" days.
hey Sara! welcome to the community. glad you finally decided to join.

i have to say, i've never even heard of indigo children. i did just look it up and from what i can tell it's so much New Age silliness. from the little reading i did what i find fascinating is how anyone could believe in that rubbish. probably what you find fascinating about it too. :)
Heya Sara, welcome to the site!

I've heard about Indigo children before, in another thread here on T|A, actually. And yes, it's basically just more New Age/Age of Aquarius/mystic mumbo-jumbo. As I recall, the list of 'attributes' an Indigo child may have basically boils down to "Your child may be a spoiled brat, but that's okay, because it means that they are a special, uber-gifted child and not that you are a failure as a parent!"
Welcome to TA Sara!

I know a decent amount of information about Indigo children having been told I am one for the past nine years, it gets really annoying after awhile. As Nelson said the Indigo children is New Age silliness, basically the Indigo children are children born with psychic abilities and an indigo colored aura.

These sites might be able to help you.

I'd never heard the term until you just now mentioned it, but after looking it up I guess I've seen people discuss it on TV. In fact I think A&E or one of those types of networks does a show on psychic kids, and I recently saw a show on CNN where Larry King interviewed kids of the paranormal, one being the granddaughter of the great Nina Simone.

I think there is something to be said about children and their abilities to recognize feelings around them. I've spent a lot of time with kids lately and it's amazing how they notice little things. None of the kids I know see ghosts, but it's interesting to see the things they pick up on that I normally wouldn't. Kids are also more innocent and interpret things differently than we clouded minded adults do.

But as for an actual paranormal ability...to me it doesn't matter if the person is 9 or 90, it sounds like a load of shit. I read on Wikipedia that the coiner of the phrase 'indigo children' says this is actually another degree of evolution; these children have evolved to incorporate telepathic skills into their thinking.

I'm not a psychologist so I don't know the depths that telepathy has been studied. But I don't see how something that does not appear to be natural can be the next stage in evolution. My best friend and I were so close that we could look into each others eyes for one second and know what the other was thinking without saying a word. It used to drive our husband's crazy. But I never once thought she and I were telepathic; we were just very in tune to one anothers personalities which had been built on years of friendship.

Sadly, it just looks like a new way to exploit kids.
"I'm not a psychologist so I don't know the depths that telepathy has been studied. But I don't see how something that does not appear to be natural can be the next stage in evolution."

Unless you're an X-Man. :)

Kids are very perceptive, more so than most people give them credit for. Unlike adults, they've not had the time and experience to develop the filters that most of us use in our daily lives, and as such can be quick to pick up on things that we may overlook as 'routine'.
Right! I was just thinking that people who believe in Indigo kids are probably from the generation that watched X-men. I think it's just wishful thinking; people want to believe that our next stage of evolution is superhero powers and, of course, no one wants to think their kid actually has something wrong with them.

It's almost like good-intentions mixed up with delusion. Anyone who has a kid that has a problem wants them to feel normal or, if this doesn't convince the kid, they're told that they're "special" to soften the blow of not fitting in. They're motives are good, but then to start believing it themselves is ridiculous... or, at least to the level these parents of "Indigo children" have taken it. There's nothing wrong with honestly appreciating the differences your child displays, but don't put ideas in their head about them being almost a different species!

I know this is an old thread.. but going to reply anyway..

The whole next step in human evolution and the telepathy thing actually reminds me of a tv show from the UK in the 70's called the Tomorrow People. The concept being that select kids from that time were the next step of human evolution, ie Homo-Superior. They all had telepathy and an innate ability to teleport (referred to as jaunting) over short distances.

In the end the Indigo Children and the Tomorrow People are the same.. science fiction.

I posted on an 'Indigo' forum over a year ago asking questions.

They 'just knew' it was true, which wasn't good enough for me, but I did find the ideas interesting. That's mainly because human beliefs interest me. I like to take a step back and observe all the contradicting beliefs around the world.
You didn't get all that many responses to your post, which is too bad. No one had anything to say to your comments on people of all religions "just knowing" the truth. Oh well... I guess there's no way to really argue against that.
