As someone who grew up Jewish, I am pretty knowledgable when it comes to Old Testament... so I know when people mention the ideas of heaven and hell that there is no such notion to be found anywhere in the O.T. I always assumed it was a New Testament idea, but I've been searching in vain. Isn't it odd that the "Word of God" which is supposed to contain the answers to all questions, neglects to mention the bottom line of existence-- eternal reward or eternal torture. Am I missing something? Is there a place anywhere in the New Testament which says that if you're good you go to heaven, if you're bad you go to hell? If not, who made up this idea and when?
